National 5 and NPA 5 Dance
Course Description
The National Progression Award and National 5 Qualification in Dance is designed to equip learners with knowledge, understanding and skills in Dance. These same skills are required for progression to further qualifications and/or potential career paths within the dance industry.
The course will have three compulsory units:
Contemporary Dance
Another Dance Style from Hip Hop, Jazz, African and or Street Dance.
Choreography
Skills and Qualifications
Essential skills and knowledge appropriate to dance:
- Performing
- Rehearsing
- Preparing the body
- Development of technique
- Researching
- Planning
- Evaluating
- Working collaboratively
Assessment
1) Passing on-going assessments through classwork set exercise sequences in various styles
2) Performance of a solo in both styles with a teacher and examiner.
3) Creating, teaching and presenting your choreography through two other dancers
4) Creating a choreography review/programme (written)
5) Written exam – knowledge of technical skills, ability, personal performance and development, timing/musicality, self-expression and choreographic devices
