S4 Course Choices
  • English or ESOL and Maths are mandatory.
  • 4 periods a week in English/ESOL and Maths.
  • 5 periods a week per subject in Columns B to E.
  • S4 to S6 can all be in the same class in Columns B to E – focus is on pupils being at the right level/stage as opposed to the same year group.
  • FAQ – Can I study a subject in S4 if I haven’t chosen it in S3?

It is always best to continue with subjects you experienced in S3 as you will have a greater depth of knowledge. Following discussion with your Pupil Support Teacher/Depute Head Teacher you may be able to select a subject in S4 if you did not take it in S3, and this would be looked at on an individual basis.

It is worth noting that some courses only progress up to National 5 or Level 5. This could impact on future choices in the following year. These subjects are:

  • Cyber Security

  • Practical Electronics
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Practical Woodworking
