Introduction
King’s Park Secondary School has a team of specialist staff who aim to provide a variety of support for individual pupils. If your child has a difficulty which makes learning more challenging, you will both quickly get to know the department and staff.
We support children through a variety of targeted supports throughout the school. We are an experienced team that offers expertise and guidance to pupils and fellow colleagues alike.
The department offers help to pupils in a variety of ways:
- Providing direct one-to-one targeted support for a short period of time from a learning support specialist teacher or support for learning worker.
- In class support.
- Support with Literacy through a variety of strategies and groups.
- Discussions and support to classroom teachers by learning support staff.
- Referral to specialist services, eg Psychological Services, CAMHS, GVS, GDSS etc through the school’s Joint Support Team and Multi Agency meetings.
- Arranging a case conference for pupils with class teachers and staff
- Providing specialist resources.
- Liaising with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) teachers and pupils so that special examination arrangements are made where appropriate.
- Working with EAL services for our EAL pupils we run small groups and one to one support
- Support for pupils with a variety of ASN to make positive transitions to King’s Park Secondary School from primary and other schools, and to further education, employment or training.
