Meet the Doctor Career Event

Medic Insight Dundee is a student‑led society that runs free events for school pupils interested in pursuing a career in healthcare or medicine. Our aim is to widen access, demystify the medical profession, and support young people as they explore their future pathways.

Medic Insight Dundee is delighted to announce the launch of our brand‑new virtual lecture series, Meet the Doctor! We would be thrilled to have you to join us for the fourth event.

Our events are usually for pupils within the tayside area however for this virtual series we are opening up to all S3-6 pupils across Scotland!

This series is designed for S3–S6 pupils who are considering a future in medicine and would like to gain a realistic insight into the day‑to‑day life of a doctor.

For our second event we will be having a talk from a Geriatric doctor , who will share their career journey, clinical experiences, and advice for aspiring medical students.

Recent trip to the All Energy Exhibition & Conference @SEC Glasgow

A group of our new S4 Physics pupils recently attended the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, who were celebrating their 25th anniversary. During the visit, pupils took part in a range of STEM tabletop activities within the Skill Zone and enjoyed the exciting Hydrogen Racing challenge delivered by Glasgow Science Centre. They also had the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of exhibitors and industry vendors, learning more about renewable energy, sustainability, and future careers in science and engineering.

Winners! Trade House School Craft Competition 2026

Earlier this month we entered our S5 & 5 pupils Design Final Outcomes into Trade House’s School Craft Competition 2026, alongside the Design & Technology Department.
The judging panel came out to the school and shortlisted a number of our pupils.
We are absolutely delighted to share the names of our King’s Park prize winners, who were chosen from amongst 28 Glasgow schools!

We are so proud of our candidates and all of their hard work to produce the fantastic art and design work that has won them their prizes. We have included links to the S3 Graphics folios and photographs of Brooke, Megan & Navlyn’s pieces.

Mr O’Donnelly & I will be escorting our fabulous winners to the ceremony where they will be awarded their prizes in a couple of weeks time!

Week 35 – Caledonia Centre

Pinkston Water Sports Begins! 🚣

Our pupils have kicked off an exciting week at Pinkston! Students have been enjoying canoeing sessions and making the most of this opportunity with free time in the water—jumping, splashing, and having an absolute blast. A huge shout-out to some of our staff members who got stuck in too, joining in on all the fun. It’s brilliant to see our pupils having fun together!

Local Radio Success! 🎙️

One of our talented S1 pupils was given the fantastic opportunity to visit Go Radio last Friday, and they absolutely loved the experience! He had so much fun during the tour and the chance to have a go at some of the radio equipment.

New Timetables in Full Flow 📚

Our new timetables are now in full swing, and we’re delighted to see pupils thriving in their subject choices:

  • One of our pupils is making creative 2D models in Business and Computing.
  • Another pupil is thoroughly enjoying their new Health and Food Technology class and already impressing with their enthusiasm.

Week 34 – Caledonia Centre

A Short Week Full of Learning and Fun

This week was a shorter one with Monday off and an in-service day for pupils on Thursday. Despite the condensed schedule, our students and staff made the most of every moment!

S4 Sports Success

Our S4 students had a fantastic time during the final week of our MAP programme. A massive thank you to Mr. Hayworth for organising such an engaging and well-run 3-week programme. The students’ enthusiasm and sportsmanship were wonderful to see!

P7 Transition Programme

We also continued with our P7 Transition Programme, where the children explored different activities, made new friends, and met more of their future class teachers. This ongoing programme helps our incoming pupils settle in and get excited about joining us!

Staff Professional Development

On Thursday’s in-service day, several members of our staff completed a training course on LGBT Inclusive Education. This professional development opportunity helps our team create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all students.

Next week, all our pupils will be moving on to their new timetables, marking an exciting new chapter in the school year📖 👥⭐

Two Great CMS Law Opportunities

 CMS Connect (work experience)

CMS is a founding member of PRIME, an organisation formed by various UK law firms committed to improving access to the legal profession. During the sustained programme of support, students will develop skills that all employers look out for, not just those in the legal profession.

We will be running CMS Connect across our London, Bristol, Sheffield and Glasgow offices this year.

Successful applicants will benefit from:

  • 5 days of paid work experience this summer (3-7 August)
  • Mentoring
  • Workshops and insight sessions to enhance skills required for the world of work
  • Ongoing support
  • Successful applicants can also be spring-boarded to the CMS Solicitor Apprenticeship or Insight programmes.

 CMS Law Scholarships 

Successful applicants will benefit from:

  • Financial support (£3,000 per year) for each year of their law degree
  • Mentoring during their UCAS applications and LNAT examination
  • A trainee buddy to provide more informal support with starting a career in the law
  • Paid work experience during their second year of University
  • The opportunity to be fast-tracked to future Emerging Talent programmes and assessment centres for a Training Contract
  • Ongoing support and guidance throughout their undergraduate studies and beyond

(Mentoring, paid work experience, opportunity to be fast track to assessment days and ongoing support are offered to everyone who is invited to an assessment day, regardless of whether they win a Scholarship or not.)

Eligibility  

Scholarships are aimed students who are currently in S5 and will be going to S6 after the current exam diet, and who will be the first generation in their family to go to university. There are additional criteria that students must meet to be eligible – full details can be found here.

To apply, students will need to complete an online application form and answer a question on what law they would change and why. If successful, they will be invited to an assessment day. The link to the application form is here.

Youthbuild Recruitment

We are recruiting for our Youthbuild programme which starts week commencing 26th May 26.

This programme is delivered over 7 weeks, 3 days per week (Tues- Thu) and includes a 2-week work trial/placement opportunity at the end (full time hours) for those who successfully complete the programme. The training will be delivered at our office 18-36 Rockbank Street, Glasgow, G40-2UA. See attached poster for full information.

CLOSING DATE FOR REFERRALS IS STRICTLY THURSDAY, 14TH MAY 26 AT MIDDAY.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Aged 16-24 years old
  • Reside within Glasgow City Council Boundary – check postcode here: MapIt : map postcodes and geographical points to administrative areas
  • Young people must have and be able to present at interview: Right to Work Identification, Photographic ID, Proof of Address dated within 6 months and a current bank account in their own name
  • Basic knowledge of Youthbuild programme and interest in working within the construction industry

MAAP Activities in Full Swing

Our MAAP activities continue to go from strength to strength in week 2! With plenty of fun and learning happening across the board, the highlight was our celebratory visit to Linn Park. A fantastic time was had by everyone.

Senior Pupils Explore the Mackintosh Tearooms

Our senior pupils enjoyed a wonderful trip organised in partnership with the National Trust for Scotland to The Mackintosh Tearooms. The pupils had a brilliant time exploring this iconic venue — and they definitely enjoyed the delicious cakes that were waiting for them! 🍰
Our senior pupils also channelled their creativity in an art class, creating  pictures inspired by their visit to The Mackintosh Tearooms.

 

Junior Pupils Cook Up Halloumi Fries

This week in cooking class, our junior pupils got creative in the kitchen, making halloumi fries. A tasty lesson in culinary skills! 🍽️

**Recruiting New S3 DYW Ambassadors**

We are recruiting a new cohort of S3 Youth Ambassadors as part of the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Glasgow programme. This initiative gives pupils the chance to develop leadership skills, represent their peers, and play an active role in shaping employer engagement across the school.

The programme requires 4 meetings throughout the year; however, you will also be invited along to optional events throughout. This programme is aimed at the new S3 pupils (26/27) who are eager to make a difference!
