Introduction to the Business & Computing Department

Welcome to the Business & Computing Department! Here at King’s Park Secondary, we pride ourselves on preparing students for the rapidly evolving world of technology, business, and enterprise. In our department, students develop essential skills and knowledge that open doors to exciting careers and equip them with practical expertise for the modern workplace.

In today’s interconnected world, business and technology are at the heart of every industry. The subjects we teach not only align with Scotland’s national priorities but also cultivate transferable skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation. Whether students aspire to become entrepreneurs, software developers, accountants, or digital media creators, our courses provide the foundation for future success.

We also emphasise real-world applications through project-based learning, collaboration, and exposure to industry-standard tools. From analysing market trends in Business Management to creating cutting-edge software in Computing Science, our students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for further education and their chosen career paths.

At King’s Park Secondary, we believe that fostering these skills is key to helping our students thrive in an increasingly digital and business-driven world. We look forward to nurturing their potential and shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

S1-S3 BGE

Our Broad General Education (BGE) course in Business & Computing provides students in S1 to S3 with a dynamic and engaging introduction to the subjects within our faculty. In S1 and S2, we run a combined course designed to give pupils a comprehensive taste of the diverse opportunities our department offers. Across two periods each week, students explore a range of exciting topics, including word processing, entrepreneurship, spreadsheets, databases, web design, Scratch programming, Cyber Security, and graphics, among other key areas.

The primary aim of the S1-S2 curriculum is to ensure that pupils have a clear understanding of the subjects we offer, empowering them to make informed choices when selecting their specialisation at the end of S2. At this stage, students can choose to focus on AccountingAdministration and ITComputing Science, or Business Management, tailoring their learning to align with their interests and aspirations.

In S3, pupils specialised curriculum, dedicating three periods a week to their chosen subject. This year is pivotal in preparing students for National qualifications, with a project-based approach to learning. By engaging in hands-on activities, pupils not only deepen their subject knowledge but also develop practical skills that will serve them well in their academic and professional futures.

Our BGE course is designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and equip students with a strong foundation in business and technology, setting them on the path to success in senior school and beyond.
