Mathematics within Glasgow City Council has changed. Recent training has advocated the use of the “Glasgow Counts” Methodology and Framework. Within the Framework the Mission Statement is: “The fundamental aim is to fill our young minds with a sense of … motivation, courage and belief in their power to influence their own futures. We are driven by a commitment to create pathways to enable all stakeholders to possess skills for life, learning and work. We want our young people to engage in Mathematics’ and build their comprehension in the subject across the curriculum. The purpose is to offer a better way to build understanding in and beyond our classrooms.” (Glasgow Counts Framework, 2016 July). The school will follow the Glasgow Counts C.P.A. approach.
Our Aims:
- Children have a sound foundation of Place Value which can be applied throughout their development of the curriculum.
- Concrete Materials will be used in each class to help children explore new learning and deepen their understanding before progressing onto Pictorial and Abstract approaches.
- All stakeholders will value the importance of depth of understanding before progression.
- All stakeholders will be aware of different strategies which can be used to solve problems.
- Growth mind-set within the school “Mistakes are good so let’s celebrate them”.
