Why Study History in Hillhead High school?

In S4 and S5 History all learners will follow the National Curriculum covering National 4, 5 and Higher Outcomes and Experiences. They will focus on three units of work and an Assignment (research project)

 

Topic 1 Migration and Empire 1830-1939

Learners will study the major effect of the British Empire on Scotland the Impact that the Scots had around the Empire. The unit will focus on the analysis and evaluations of complex sources.

 

Topic 2(a) Rise of Nationalism in Germany 1815 – 1939

This is a study of a turbulent time in Germany from 1815 leading to WWI, Rise of Hitler and the impact of the Nazi State.

 

 

Topic 2(b) The Cold War 1945-1989 (Higher only)

This course will look at three key areas of the Cold War; the Causes up to 1955, Soviet control of Eastern Europe up to 1961 and finally the Reasons why USA lost the Vietnam War.

 

Topic 3 Making of modern Britain 1850-1951

This study focuses on the impact of the Industrial revolution on political and cultural Britain. It assesses the major changes that have shaped our country today.
