Analysis- the process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through examining real life events and people.
Communication- The ability to share orally ideas, opinions and information for a purpose and within a context. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through class discussions and debating various topics.
Citizenship– Being aware of the democratic society & able to recognise your role in this context; and being aware of global issues, understanding one’s responsibilities within these, and acting responsibly. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through studying democracy and international issues.
Critical Thinking– The ability to think clearly and rationally, understanding the logical connection between ideas. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through the use of different sources of information.
Evaluation- The ability to identify and weigh-up the features of a situation or issue and to use your judgement of them in coming to a conclusion. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through source questions in which pupils are provided with different pieces of evidence and asked to come to a judgement.
Information Handling- being able to interpret data in tables, charts and other graphical displays to draw sensible conclusions. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed by carrying out research, analysing election results and statistics regarding issues such as crime in the UK and source questions.
Working With Others- This is knowing and practising what is involved in working co-operatively with others and Being Able to influence and negotiate with others to take ideas forward. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through group tasks and debating.
Writing- the ability to create texts which communicate ideas, opinions and information, to meet a purpose and within a context. In Modern Studies and Politics this skill is developed through preparing for essay questions and skill questions.
