School Podcast – June 2023

Our pupil ‘Digital Leaders’ group have created the first ever Garnetbank podcast! They worked with Ms Carberry (our school’s Digital Leader of Learning) to plan, record and edit this episode from June 2023. ‘When Mandela danced in the Square’

In 2023, our P5-P7 classes took part in WOSDEC’s (West of Scotland Development Education Centre) ‘When Mandela danced in the Square‘ project. The project explored Scotland’s connection with Nelson Mandela and supported pupils to feel empowered to take action on issues of importance to them today.

Pupils explored the context of apartheid South Africa, the life of Nelson Mandela and the connections to the Scottish anti-apartheid movement. They used iPads to create short films and illustrations to share their thoughts and opinions on this important topic. All lessons were linked to related Sustainable Development Goals and articles from the UNCRC, to help build learners real world understanding of these.
