Attunement

Picture an interaction between a mother and a young baby – each partner is paying close attention to the other, there is emotional connection, messages are sent and received between them, there is some turn taking, there is an element of fun, it feels nice to watch. This is called Attunement.

When things are going well in an interaction there are observable behaviours present.  These behaviours are often referred to as The Attunement Principles.  The Attunement Principles can be used to help individuals reflect on what they are doing during an interaction to help things go well and to help to reflect on what could make their interactions become even better.  Using the Attunement Principles helps build strong relationships.
