Carmyle Primary School and Nursery Class

Promoting Positive Behaviour

Earlier this year we spoke to staff, pupils and parents with regards to adapting a new Promoting Positive Behaviour approach. The response was extremely positive and we piloted this in Term 4 of the 2017/2018 session.

All of our staff have received training based on Paul Dix’s work ‘When the Adults Change, Everything Changes’ and this was a pivotal aspect of our new approach to Promoting Positive Behaviour.

  • Our learners helped decide on 3 school rules (Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Dream Big)
  • Positive rewards such as text messages home, certificates and positive postcards have been introduced
  • Negative sanctions such as the removal of Golden Time have been abandoned
  • We have replaced  Golden Time with our ‘Wednesday Wonder Classes’

Ollie (P2) designed a fantastic poster with our rules. This is displayed in every class!

Text messages home, certificates and positive postcards help us to reinforce all our positive behaviours when we go ‘Over and Above’.
