News from the P2s

Primary 2 have been learning about Scotland this term.  They have looked at famous landmarks in Scotland’s major cities and have learned some interesting facts about these.  We have also learned about some famous Scottish artists such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Steven Brown and have made some lovely artwork based on this.
Last week we learned about Ramadan and how this is celebrated around the world and this week we have been learning about Easter.
Hope all our families have a lovely holiday and we will see you when you return for the last term of Primary 2!

Safety Seymour Carbon Monoxide Workshops

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Initiative

Dear Parents/Carers

We are writing to let you know about a very special safety session that is coming up. We are a company called Bonanza Creative and, in collaboration with The Gas Network, we will be delivering a workshop to some classes in March called “Safety Seymour”. This interactive session uses games and drama to educate children on the dangers of carbon monoxide and how to keep themselves safe. Seymour (a superhero bear) and his safety assistant will be visiting your child’s class, on a mission to rid the world of CO poisoning but he needs help!!

There is more information about CO in the carbon monoxide booklet that you will receive on the day, or you can visit: safetyseymour.co.uk, it’s full of fun activities for your child to take part in.

We are aware that safety information can be quite alarming for children and have therefore made a great effort to package all information in a child-friendly way.  That said, if your child does have any concerns about CO, please allay fears.  It is highly unlikely that CO is present in your home but none the less, we must work to educate ourselves about its dangers and take precautions to keep ourselves safe, such as fitting a CO alarm.

Thank you for your time and if you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with your child’s school.

Drama In P4!

Primary 4 have been doing a topic called ‘The Boy And The Bunnet’. Yesterday in drama they sat in the hot seat and answered questions as some of the main characters. Some of the boys and girls managed to use some of the Scots words we have learned in the topic!

Chinese New Year in Primary 1!

This term, Primary one have been learning about Chinese New Year.  We have been learning about Chinese symbols and what they represent.  We had a go at writing our names using Chinese symbols using fine paint brushes and black paint.  We worked alongside primary 5 to create lucky money wallets and shared a delicious snack of prawn crackers and fried rice.

Children have been enjoying exploring our new role play restaurant ‘The Golden Star’.  This links to ‘developing the young workforce’.  Children have enjoyed being the manager of the restaurant, waiter/waitress, cleaner, cashier and customer.  They have learned about handling money, communicating with others and writing orders.

What’s new in P7

We have finished our topic on Diversity which included learning on neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD, Dyslexia and Autism as well as learning about racism, apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
We launched our new topic in style by visiting the World War II exhibit about wartime Glasgow at the People’s Palace.
The worlds of Science and Art collided this week when we learned about the circulatory system and then used clay to sculpt a 3D model of the human heart. We will continue to look at body systems throughout this term.
In Maths, we are moving on from mental calculations and problem-solving using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Our new area of learning is geometry and we are getting to grips with triangles, protractors and compasses.
We had our first lesson with our Celtic football coach on Monday which was great fun – we decided that Rae had been player of the day. We are also looking forward to learning more Ultimate Frisbee with Mrs Nolan.
We would like to thank Mr Meehan and Mrs Drummond for joining us on our school trip.

After school clubs in Term 3

After school clubs will restart next week (week beginning 23rd January). See below for list of clubs. Children will be given the opportunity to sign up this week and permission letters will be sent out before the end of this week. Sorry for the delay; this was due to staff absence.

What’s happening in Primary 2

Primary 2 have been working very hard since they have come back after Christmas.  We have started to learn about Chinese New Year and we are excited to share our learning with our families on Friday 20th January during our showcase assembly.
We are going to be focusing on our letter formation over the next few weeks so this helps us to write independently.
Homework will begin again on Monday 16th January.
