Halloween Fun

The boys and girls in Primary 1a had lots of fun at Halloween. We all wore great costumes to our party, some of which included witches, werewolves and super heroes! We also had lots of fun dooking for apples, making witch masks and eating lots of yummy party food!

Reflecting on our Learning

Wow…what a quick term it has been! It only seems like yesterday that we had our first day at Balornock Primary. We have all been Successful Learners since starting school and this week we spent some time reflecting on term one. We self-assessed different areas of our learning within Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing. We can’t wait until term two!

Learning to Read in Primary 1a

The boys and girls in Primary 1a have been learning to read! We have been learning how to use the pictures to retell the stories. This week, we have been reading The Library and At School. In class, we have been reading in groups and reading on our own; soon we will be ready to read books with words!!!

Active Literacy in Primary 1a

The boys and girls in Primary 1a have been using phonemes to make, read and write CVC words on their magnetic boards during our Active Literacy lessons. We have been remembering to follow the rules of say, make/break, blend, read and write. Look at how clever we all are…

Active Learning in Social Studies

Our Home Learning Project

The boys and girls in primary 1a made their own crowns and tiaras at home as part of their ‘Castles’ home learning project. We had the choice of whether we wanted to design a 3D crown or tiara or decorate a 2D version. We used lots of different materials such as glitter, jewels, gems, feathers, stickers and pom-poms to decorate our crowns and tiaras and we think the results are absolutely fantastic!  

Welcoming a Baby

In Primary 1a, we have been learning all about welcoming a new-born baby into a family! We all had lots of suggestions for great babies’ names, but we could only choose one and so the name David was selected. We worked with a partner to think about some of the things a new-born baby would need which included a family, a pram, toys, milk and lots more ideas!
