P.E Gymnastics

In P.E. we have switched to do some gymnastics.  Today we were learning about balance, control and coordination of our bodies.  Balancing our bodies in specific positions was quite tricky; it was easy for a couple of seconds but if we had to hold our position without wobbling about for a while, it was exhaaauuusssting! However, we managed to work in trios to perform team-balance positions after some practising.

Homework: Wednesday 7th February (Completed)

Homework this week consists of:

1.) 10 spelling words to be written (in rainbow colours, newspaper cutouts, in sand with a photo taken etc) three times and three sentences in their homework jotter. You can mix and match the three ways you do it; write one in rainbow colours, cut one set out in newspapers and just type the last one etc – it is up to you!

2.) BugClub Reading Books/Online Bugclub – pages to be read/task will be written on homework marker to do in your homework jotter/Glow Blogs

3.) Maths: Beat that challenge! Try your best! Do working on the back of the sheet if you need to. Try a new strategy! Please try the questions yourself – give your parents/guardians a break. If you’re not sure, come and ask me. Just make sure you don’t do it the day before Wednesday!!!!

P.s. Use your homework guidance sheets to help you. It’s what they are there for.  They are like cheat sheets!

STEM: Building bridges with unconventional materials

Our class’ main topic this term is on “Making a Movie” but we are also exploring some engineering/technology.  We have been looking at bridges, their structure, the types there are and their purpose to the world.  Today we were told to “put on our thinking caps” and experiment with different joins/connections/support mechanisms for bridges, and make a bridge ourselves.  It is an on-going project.  The materials that we have been given to do this include: spaghetti, lollipop sticks and rubber bands.  The success of this STEM challenge is for our bridges to support one bag of 1kg sugar at the end of it.  Here are some photos of us working hard and collaborating as a team.

Literacy: VCOP

In our close-reading lesson, we were learning to be more aware of our VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation) when reading different types of text.  If we can spot them in a piece of reading, our skills might transfer over into our writing.  Punctuation matters!

Here we are working hard with our partners to suss out all the VCOP in the extract of “Christopher Mouse.”

Scottish Assembly

Today we celebrated Burns day (it was yesterday) with a Scottish Assembly.  There were lots of Scottish poems, songs and dances.  It was an absolute hoot! Our class were fantastic during the recital of our poem “The Crocodile” by Jk. Annand.

R.M.E: Rituals

In RME we are learning about rituals. We talked about the difference between ritual and routine, and learned about the ritual of Communion in Christianity. You can think about rituals that you might have in your life to discuss in class next.

Topic: Evaluating our finished Landmarks

We have finally finished our European landmarks. It was a big project and even though some of us did not manage to meet the success criteria, we discussed how we could improve it and also looked at the good things about it.

Here are our evaluations and finished landmarks:

Belgium: Two good things about our model was that it had an amazing base and it was painted as realistically as possible.  We could have improved it by making the model lighter because the weight of it kept tipping it over.  The body was also too thin and it would have been better if it was thicker and more heavy.  It was not as successful as we had hoped because it fell apart when we tried to combine the body to the feet.  The body and head were too heavy!      (Comments made by: Amelia, Iona, Macy, Hala)

Spain: Two good things about our model that we were proud of is that it’s linked to the country and that it uses the colours of the Spanish flag.  We could have improved out model by giving it a stronger base support at the sides.  It wasn’t quite successful because it didn’t balance well.         (Comments made by: Sam, Ahmed Alhu, Abdull and Kabir)

Ireland: Two good things about our model was that the model was sturdy and the paint layered on very well and did not slide off.  We could have improved it by using more support/different types of connection for the toilet rolls.  It was not successful because we did not give enough support to the toilet rolls (side turret building) and the rolls kept falling apart whenever we taped them. Plus, we did not meet the success criteria of being 1 metre tall or 1 metre long. (Comments made by: khadijah, Haneeah, Eva and Fatimah)

France: Two things that worked for our model was that the Eiffel Tower replication shows the French Flag colours, and we have painted to croissant brown to keep it realistic.  We could have improved our model by painting it with more layers.  However, it was not successful because it was not quite 1 metre tall and the paint kept peeling off.               (Comments made by: Jay, Ahmed Alib, Asfhan)

Italy: Two good things about our model was that it was quite sturdy and it could stand freely by itself.  We could improve our model by making its shape better and squeeze the model into a more circular position by taping the cardboard better. If we worked a little faster too, we could have added more detail to it.  It was successful, however, because it was 1 metre long and could stand by itself.                    (Comments made by: Jordan, Shivangi and Ada,m)

United Kingdom (UK): The first good thing about our model is that it is 1 metre long and it can stand up on its own.  We could have improved it further though by making it more colourful.  It was successful because we worked together as a team. (Comments made by: Petar, Abi, Ike and Reece)

Topic: Painting our European landmarks!

Today we took our designed landmarks further and painted them. We based our colours on things that had to do with our group’s chosen country.  Some of us had to work hard to remember how to make green, brown, orange, grey, pink and purple, out of primary colours.
