Homework: Wednesday 25th April (Completed)

Homework this week consists of:

1.) 10 spelling words to be written (in rainbow colours, newspaper cutouts, in sand with a photo taken etc) three times and three sentences in their homework jotter. You can mix and match the three ways you do it; write one in rainbow colours, cut one set out in newspapers and just type the last one etc – it is up to you!

2.) BugClub Reading Books/Online Bugclub – pages to be read/task will be written on homework marker to do in your homework jotter/Glow Blogs.

– Finding WOW words and explaining what they mean, as well as why you think the author has chosen those particular words – WOW words are words that you might not often use in your writing, or are words that help you visualise more clearly a scene/idea/character in your text when reading.

  • Example 1: The word “ecstatic” might be a WOW word because it gives you the image of a more intense and wild feeling of happiness, rather than just saying “happy” which might only give a sense of calm, regular, bog-standard smile on someone’s face.
  • Example 2: The word “colossal” might be a WOW word because it really shows that something is big on an incredible scale, whereas the word “big” may only suggest a couple of metres.

– In 3 long sentences, choose and explain what is your favourite part of the story you read – Please pick a section of the story that you enjoyed the most and explain why you enjoyed it. Avoid saying “…because it was interesting!” Explain WHY it was interesting!

– Pick something that you have learned from the book– Pick a fact from the book that you have read; it could be how you make something, or how you do something etc. Explain if you will use that skill again, or if you would like to make use of what you have learned.

3.) Topic: Researching your given dynasty/dynasties – You have been assigned a dynasty to research in class, and classwork will be based on your research so make sure this section of the homework is completed. It is groupwork and each person from the group will be expected to contribute out of fairness!

  • You can explore the internet using google, wikipedia, youtube videos etc to find information on your assigned dynasty.
  • You will be expected to bring in information based on:
    • Date ruled by dynasty
    • 5-6 images to do with your dynasty that you have found from the internet; either in printed form, or on a USB, or copy and pasting a link onto this blog post so that we can print it in school.
    • 3 x facts about your dynasty (information that you have perhaps not already found in class)
    • Be able to explain why your particular dynasty was important to YOU and why you think other people would want to find out about it
    • Then… 1 final fun fact that you might have come across. It can be funny, or silly, BUT it has to be factual.

The information that you research, collect and share with your group should be things that you have made sense of. I do not want to see printed pages and pages of text that you do not understand. I might quiz you in class to make sure this does not happen.  It is pointless to bring in information that you don’t understand.  It does not have to be complicated!

Lastly, make sure you take note of where you found your information from: library book – title of book, internet – what website. person – who was it that told you the information.
