,Good morning P5,

It’s the last day of the school year! Can you believe it?

I have enjoyed getting to know you all this year so here is a little poem I made up just for you.

Farewell Primary 5 of 2020

Primary 5 has been a blast,

but sadly some good things do not last.

You’ve studied hard all year long,

working your brain to keep it strong.

Miss Brightman always made you smile,

as she gave you music lessons for a while.

Different topics we have covered,

think of all the things you discovered.

Knowledge and skills you have gained,

your brain must be under a considerable strain.

What a journey we have had,

to leave you all is making me sad.

To have been your teacher has made me proud,

even though at times the class was very loud.

Enjoy your summer everyone,

I’m sure you’ll agree P5 was lots of fun.

Parents-

This could help with children’s emotional wellbeing  coming back to school.  Below is a link to  resources, such as, books, questions for discussions and activities parents could do with children over the summer to help them talk about and understand their emotions.

Have a fantastic summer P5!

Good morning boys and girls,

It’s the last week of school before your long summer holiday! Yesterday all the teachers worked with Ben our school’s storyteller thinking about different ways to use our outdoor space so that when you return in August you can enjoy more outdoor learning. I love that the our playgrounds are looking really colourful after being painted which makes them a fun place to spend time in.

Today’s Tasks-

Health and Wellbeing

Take part in the St Albert’s  Virtual Sports Week (link below).

Literacy

Have-a-go at writing an acrostic poem about our school.

An acrostic poem is a poem of words or phrases that describes a topic word. The topic word is written vertically, and each line of the poem starts with the letters of the topic word.

Happy Friday P5,

Can you believe it’s the last Friday before your summer holidays? It was lovely seeing some of you yesterday when you collected your reports. I’m sure you noticed that the outside of the school is looking amazing after being painted.

The teachers have also been very busy painting the inside of the school too. I went round the school and took some pictures so see if you can guess:

1- What is it/ Who is it?

2- Where is it?

3- Who painted it?

Thursday 18th June 2020

Good morning boys and girls,

I hope you are all well. Today your parents are invited to come into school between 1pm and 2pm to pick up your report card, certificate and a letter informing you what class you will be in for P6.

Today’s Task-

Watch the short video below which explains how we are helping to repair our planet.

Now that you understand how important it is to take care of our planet and appreciate, enjoy and preserve nature why not try to make your own garden indoors by making a mini greenhouse.

You Will Need:

  • coloured plastic cups
  • clear plastic cups that are slightly smaller or larger than your coloured cups
  • a push pin
  • potting soil
  • seeds (try to choose something with a short germination period)
  • water

It’s incredibly easy to make mini greenhouses. Here’s how!

  1. Use the push pin to poke several holes in the bottom of your coloured cup. This will allow for some drainage, should your plants be overwatered.
  2. Fill your cup nearly to the top with potting soil and pat it down gently.
  3. Carefully place your seeds in your soil-filled cup, making sure to leave some space between each one. You can plant as few or as many as you like, but we usually use 3 – 5 seeds per greenhouse.
  4. Cover your seeds with an additional scoop of soil and once again, pat it down gently.
  5. Give your seeds some water. I find that using a spray or squeeze bottle gives little ones more control and avoids big spills and overwatering disasters.
  6. Place your clear cup over your solid coloured cup to form a greenhouse. This will lock in the moisture and warmth, allowing your seeds to germinate quickly, while still allowing you to see what’s going on inside.  Place your greenhouses on a tray and put them near a window that will get lots of light.
  7. Now all that’s left to do is to keep a close eye on your greenhouses!  Add a little water every day or two and it won’t be long before you see some little sprouts popping up.  Good luck!

I look forward to perhaps seeing some of you today between 1pm and 2pm to collect your reports.

Take care,

Mrs Hughes

Good morning P5,

How was your weekend? I spent most of mine out walking as I visited Pollok Park, Queens Park and Linn Park. My legs are aching but I enjoyed the exercise and fresh air.

Today’s Task-

During lockdown our regular routines have been disturbed and I don’t know about you but I have found that my sleep pattern has changed because I am not getting up and going to bed at my usual times. Have a look at the powerpoint (link below) and find out about sleep cycles.

Read through the statements below and try to put them in the correct order on the flowchart below.

I will post the answers tomorrow.

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Good morning P5,

The teachers are nearly finished clearing the school for your return in August. It is looking  really tidy so now we need to paint some inside areas to make it more welcoming. If you have been out for a walk and passed the school you may have noticed that Miss Bull and lots of volunteers  have painted the school railings bright rainbow colours which look amazing. Remember to let me know if you have come up with any great ideas for the school mural.

Today’s Tasks-

Literacy- Creative story writing

Here are some inspirational pictures that can stimulate your minds.

In term 3 we focused on creative writing. Try and write an exciting story based on one of the above pictures or use your own ideas. I would love to read them when you have finished.

Today is World Ocean’s Day!

Have a look at the powerpoint below to find out about World Ocean’s Day (link below).

Good morning P5 / 8th June 2020

Hello boys and girls,

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and managed to get outside for some fresh air. I’m going into school again today so here are a few tasks for you to get on with.

Today’s Tasks-

Literacy-

Punctuation-

When you are writing, inverted commas (also called speech marks) go before and after any words that a character says (known as direct speech).

Watch this short video clip (link below) to remind you when to use speech marks.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbvd7sg

Now try these activities to check that you understand how to use speech marks correctly.

Activity One

Rewrite this conversation between Dani and her father, adding in the missing inverted commas.

Remember: Whenever a new person starts talking, you must move onto a new line.

How did you get mud all the way up to your knees? Dani’s father asked, with a frown.
I met a dragon in the wood on the way home exclaimed Dani. We went on a big adventure!
I suppose you’ll tell me you were fighting giants next! her father said, with a wink.
And wizards and witches said Dani smiling. We won!

Activity Two

Complete this dialogue’  sheet. (‘Dialogue’ just means a conversation between two or more people.)

Maths-

Have-a-go at these adding and subtraction sums.

I’ll post the answers on tomorrows blog.
