Good morning / 5th June 2020

Hi everyone,

Our classroom feels so big and empty without you all in it!

Here are a few things to keep you busy-

Mrs Pattie is getting an artist to spray paint a really cool mural in the upper playground and she wants your ideas! What would you like to see on the wall? Think about our school and what it stands for; love, respect, equality and learning. Text your ideas to 0789 449 2119. Watch the video below of cool school murals to get you thinking!

Literacy-

As we all love the famous author Roald Dahl’s books why not sit back and listen to Mr Corrigan reading a few chapters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (link below).

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Good morning boys and girls,

I’m going into school again today to help get the school building safe and ready for your August return.

Today’s Task-

Health and Wellbeing-

Recycle for Glasgow-

Read over the the recycling text below and then answer the questions about why it is important to recycle.

As I will be in school most days now there will no longer be a blog post of tasks for you everyday. Remember to use your sumdog account and the learning pack that was delivered to you.

I shall post the answers to the questions on Friday and don’t forget to fill in your healthy eating journal.

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Good morning P5,

As of this week teachers are back in the school building getting it safe and ready for everyone to come back after the summer holiday.

Today’s Tasks-

Literacy-

Using Suffixes Part 2

Watch the second short video clip about the suffix -sion (link below)-

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zr8kwty

The suffix -sion is often used to change a verb into a noun.

For example: Explode becomes explosion.

Spelling rules

The -sion suffix is often added to words that end in de, se, d or s. You need to drop these letter(s) before you add -sion.

For example:

  • divide = division
  • revise = revision
  • expand = expansion
  • express = expression

Complete activity 2 on Bitesize to check how well you understand how to use the  suffix -sion. As a challenge you could then write a new sentence for each word you select, making sure to spell it correctly.

Health and Wellbeing-

Did you have a look at the powerpoint about healthy eating I posted yesterday? If not here is the link again.

au-t2-d-51-healthy-eating-powerpoint_ver_2

Why not keep a food journal for a week to see how healthy you really are. I will do it too. Remember no cheating, you must record all crisps and chocolate.

Enjoy the sunshine,

Mrs Hughes

Good morning P5 / 1st June 2020

Hi boys and girls,

It’s the month of June already! The sun is shining, please make sure you go outside and enjoy it.

Today’s Tasks-

Literacy-

Using Suffixes

suffix is a letter or a group of letters that can be added to the end of a word to change its meaning.

Watch the first short video clip about the suffix -ous (link below)-

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zr8kwty

Did you notice that there are spelling rules when using the suffix -ous?

Adding the suffix -ous turns a noun into an adjective. It means ‘full of’.

For example: Dangerous means ‘full of danger’.

Spelling Rules Examples
When you add -ous to a word ending with ‘e’, drop the ‘e’, then add -ous. Adventure becomes adventurous.
When you add -ous to a word ending in ‘y’, replace the ‘y’ with ‘i’, then add -ous. Fury becomes furious.
When you add -ous to a word that ends with ‘our’, ‘our’ becomes ‘or’, then add -ous. Humour becomes humorous.

Complete the activity below to check how well you understand how to use the  suffix -ous.

Health and Wellbeing-

Have a look at the powerpoint about healthy eating (link below) and tomorrow I will set you a task.

Good morning / 26th May 2020

Hello P5 boys and girls,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend and that everyone who celebrated Eid had a joyful time with your families.

The staff at our school created a video to share with you about us sharing acts of kindness, making traditional food and enjoying spending time with family.

It would be lovely to hear about how your family prepared and celebrated Eid so send me anything you want to be shared.

Science fun from Otis and Iggy-

Otis and his brother Iggy sent Miss Brooks this fabulous video of them carrying out the Coke and Mentos experiment for us all to share and enjoy. Well done boys!

Literacy-

Facts / Opinions

Facts

Facts are definitely true.

They can be backed up with evidence.

Opinions

Your opinion is how you feel or what you think about something.

Other people might think differently or have a different opinion.
Watch the 2 video clips (link below) and learn how to spot the difference. There are a few activities you can do to check your understanding.

Are you are all logging into your sumdog account and challenging your maths skills? Use the link below to access. If anyone has forgotten their password let me know and I will send it to you.

Missing you all!

Mrs Hughes

Good morning P5 / 21st May 2020

HAPPY THURSDAY!

I hope you all had a fantastic day yesterday in the sunshine. I met and spoke to Galia and her brother outside her house and they looked happy and healthy.

Celebrations: Ramadan and Eid!

I know so many of you are so looking forward to Eid. If you do not celebrate Ramadan or Eid did you look at the powerpoint that I posted on the blog on Tuesday 19/5/20?  The Ramadan powerpoint explains why Ramadan is so important to Muslims so this would be a great time to learn all about the celebration. Remember, we are all different and  it is so important to learn about other people’s faiths and religions.

Literacy-

Why not write a few sentences about what you are most looking forward to this Eid or what Ramadan and Eid mean to you. If you do not celebrate Ramadan or Eid you could write about what you have learned from the Ramadan powerpoint. I would love to read your stories so remember to email them to me. I would only post them on the blog if you agree it’s okay.

Computing-

As we are all using the internet more during lockdown here  are a couple of video clips to help you understand how the internet and search engines work (link below).

Have a great May Weekend and have a fantastic Eid Celebration.
