Another Fun Week in P1!

This week in primary 1a has been lots of fun. In maths we have been learning how to tell the time. We have been talking about when different things happen in the school day. So when school starts and ends and what time we have lunch. At home you can show us a clock and ask us what the o’clock time is. We have been continuing to practice our number formation as well.

We have continued to work on our sounds and have been learning new sounds. Ask us at home to sound out words that have the ‘ee’ or ‘or’ sound. Also this week we have been focusing on ‘we are going on a bear hunt’. We read the story together in class and then we used different objects to make the sounds created by the onomatopoeic words. You can ask us how we made these sounds.

We have been practicing writing words independently. Qailah was writing ‘windmill’.

Here are some other photos of the fun we have been having in class this week.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Book Week

It was book week so we spent a lot of time this week focusing on our favourite books. We visited the library and we all got to choose a book to take back to school and read in the class.

This week we continued to work on our number formation and we also started to learn about fractions. We had to cut  shapes into two equal halves and put them back together again. We also drew shapes and shaded one half of the shape. You can ask us to show you half of a shape at home.

For our topic we have started to learn about animal habitats and how animals behaviours change as the seasons change. We have been focusing on hibernation and how Hedgehogs prepare for it. We got to make hedgehog hibernation houses in class.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend!

This Week in P1!

It has been a very busy week in P1. So busy that I didn’t manage to take many photos.

In numeracy, we continued our work on number bonds to 10 and we also started to learn and order the months of the year. We have been trying to remember the months before and after and also what months are in certain seasons.

We have been continuing our phonics works this week, working hard on our new sounds and tricky words. We tried to write a sentence using our tricky words ‘I’ and ‘the’. At home you can ask us if we remember them.

We have had lots of fun this week learning our songs for the school nativity. You can ask us if we remember any of the actions.

We got to outside with Miss Bull to do forest school work. We were learning to use tools and we got hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Here are some more photos of the fun we had in the classroom this week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Our Learning This Week!

In Literacy, we have been focusing on poetry. We have been learning a poem about fireworks. If you check the homework you will see our poem map and you can help us perform it. We have also continued to learn our new sounds and tricky words. Ask us to use our tricky words in a sentence.

In numeracy, we have been working on our number bonds to 10. At home you can ask us how many different ways we can make 10. We can use objects to help us. Also, we have been working on the number before and after up to 20. We have started to learn about the order of the days of the week and the months of the year. We still find this tricky. So you can maybe ask us questions like what day comes next and what day was it yesterday.

We had a very exciting visit to The Tramway to the Nick Cave art exhibition. It was amazing to see all the bright colours and watch the way they moved. It really helped us with our fireworks poems.

We had lots of fun in P.E moving like fireworks to ‘Music for the Royal Fireworks’ by the composer Handel. You  can ask us to show you these actions at home.

Here are some other photos from our week in Primary 1.

Have a great weekend!

Outdoor Learning Week!

I hope everyone had a lovely September weekend! What an exciting week we had in P1 for outdoor learning week.

We started the week with a litter pick around the playground. We then used our data handling skills to sort the litter into different groups using hoops.

On Wednesday, we started the day in the mud kitchen listening to the story ‘Stanley’s Stick’. We then had to search the mud kitchen to find our own stick and use our imagination to transform our stick into something amazing.

Ibrahim Amin – My stick is an Ankylosaurus leg bone fossil.

Pip – My stick is a cannon on a pirate ship.

Aiza – I am using my stick to make a magic potion.

On Thursday, some of our parents came into help us with our learning and we were making our own photo frames from the sticks we collected. Then we made our own natural paint from different fruits and turmeric and had a lot of fun painting a picture.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Our Learning This Week!

This week we got another visit from the police, they came in to talk to us about how to stay safe around fireworks. Chaz from Judo Scotland came in this week to give our class a Judo taster session. We had so much fun learning the new Judo moves and practising them on each other.

We have been working really hard learning to blend sounds together to make words. In the class we have been playing lots of fun blending games to try and hear all the sounds. At home you can ask us to try and blend together the sounds that we know to make words; s, a, t, i, p, n. We have continued to work on our rhyming skills by trying to suggest words that rhyme. Please help us at home to practise this.

In maths this week, we have been learning about the properties of 2D shapes. Ask me how many sides or corners some basic 2D shapes have. Also, we have been working on our counting skills and developing strategies to make it easier to count groups of objects. The nice weather this week meant we could go outside and practise our counting in the sensory garden.

Have a fab weekend everyone!
