Celebrations! Ramadan and Eid 🌙⭐️

Good Morning!

I hope you are still getting out as much as possible and enjoying the garden/park. Remember to keep sending me your amazing work.

Here is Mohammad Ibrahim working really hard

I know so many of you are so looking forward to Eid so I wonder if today you could teach me a few things about your special celebration, Miss Bull has recorded a video asking you some questions below:

If you do not celebrate Ramadan or Eid this would be a great time to learn all about the celebration, it is so important to learn about other people’s faiths and religions – remember, we are all different and being different is GREAT!:

  • What does ‘fasting’ mean? Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?
  • What do these words mean; Suhoor/Sehri, Iftar, Zakat?
  • Ramadan is the ninth month in the islamic  Lunar calendar, but what is a lunar calendar based on?

Watch these videos about the Lunar cycle:

https://www.tigtagworld.co.uk/film/phases-of-the-moon-PRM00071/I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4ZHdzl6ZWg

  • Ramadan starts when religious leaders tell everyone that they have seen a certain type of moon – Which moon is that?
  • What special things do you do with your family during the 3 day Eid celebrations?

Ask the adults in your family the questions to help you find out the answers and then ask them to help you type your answers into the comments box on the video.

Here is an interesting video all about a little boy called who shares his ideas of how to celebrate Ramdan with your family during the Corona Virus Lock Down.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/23286976

Have a go at making your own Moon Binoculars to help you to keep an eye on the lunar cycle!

All you need is: 2 toilet roll tubes, some glue, some string, some clingfilm or plastic and some things to decorate!:

OR make a Crescent Moon card for a friend or family member!

Have a great day!

Good Morning Primary 1

Hi Everyone!

Youtube

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh5GQLl6kdUmUJFwGaO-ijg

Today on our Youtube channel around 2:30pm Mr Corrigan will be going LIVE. Click the link above to support him. I think he might be a little bit nervous about this, so he would really appreciate all your support.

You can have a little chat in the comments section. I hope to see you all in the chat later!

Here is some of the work you have been doing so far!

Thanks for sending these to me. It’s great to see how hard you are all working 🙂

If you have any photos or pictures of work you would like me to put on the blog please send them to me!

Keep up the great work with the packs. Remember to keep me up to date with how your bean plant is growing.

Today’s story is being read by Miss Graham:

Before you start this story can you look at the front cover and try to predict what you think the story might be about. You can either try to draw a picture of this or tell an adult what you think might happen in the story.

Enjoy!

Good Morning P1!

Hi

I hope everyone had a lovely time over the long weekend and got to spend some time in their gardens or walking in the parks near your home. All the teachers spent lots of time outside in the lovely weather! Here is a little video that was made to help you enjoy the outdoors:

What did you see when you were out your walk? Did you take any photos or draw any pictures?

I took some photos when I was out. Can you find my pictures in the video and write a sentence about what you can see?

Activity

We are going to do a little bit of shape revision. Can you find any shapes around your house to make a shape picture? Take a photo of what you make and send it to me, so I can see your amazing work!

Do you remember the names of these shapes you have found?

Do you remember the names of any 3D shapes?

Here is Winnie the Pooh being read by Miss Kinloch as I know you all miss her:

Have a great day!

Thursday – 7th May

Hi

It was great to see you all today 🙂 Keep up all your amazing work!

You now have the rest of your packs you can work on but remember Friday is a holiday so you can have some time to relax. Monday the 11th is a in-service day so all the teachers will be busy learning new things so that means you can all have an extra day to rest.

Enjoy the long weekend and hopefully the sun stays out so you can all get out and enjoy it!

Remember to stay safe 🙂

Take Care

Good morning Little Gardeners!

This morning we are going to be talking all about Bean Plants. In your learning packs you should have received your bean plant growing experiment. Hopefully you have started this already.

Listen to today’s story Jasper’s Beanstalk! In your next packs you will receive your bean plant diary – OR you could have a go at making a diary of your own (stay tuned at the end of the story for instructions)

Activity:

Today we are going to become scientists and we are going to be doing something called ‘predicting’. Predicting means using things that you already know to make a guess about what is going to happen next or in the future.

So…Thinking about what you already know about plants and how they grow;

What do you predict is going to happen to your bean plant?

Can you copy out and finish the following sentences (have a go at some writing but you can draw pictures next to each sentence too to show what you think is going to happen):

  • In week 1 I predict that my bean plant will……
  • In week 2 I predict that my bean plant will……
  • In week 3 I predict that my bean plant will……

Today’s Measure Activity!

  1. Choose a toy and draw around it on a piece of paper
  2. Cut out the drawing
  3. Choose an object in your house that you have lots of – it must be the same size object like 1p coins or 2p coins or connecting cubes or blocks or buttons or grapes.
  4. Predict how many of your object you will need to measure the toy’s body – Write down your prediction.
  5. Measure each part of the toy and write down the results. Were your predictions right? How many away from the right answer were you?
  6. Use this new information to predict how many of your object you will need to measure the toy’s legs, arms, head etc.
Questions for parents to ask:
  • Discuss how they could measure round their toy using a piece of string.
  • Order the height of toys around the house.
  • Discuss – What other things could they have measured with?
  • What difference would it have made?

We will hopefully have your maths topic packs to you this week.

Have a lovely day

Home Learning – Tuesday

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed Miss Bulls lovely thank you message.

The weather is looking like it is going to be really lovely this week so it would be great if everyone could get outside as much as possible. That could be going for a walk in the park, riding your bike or helping out in the garden. I am trying to go out on my bike or go for a walk along the canal everyday to help me stay healthy!

As we know it is Spring time. Here is a video of Mr Corrigan showing us lots of the signs of Spring. When you are out your walk in the park or in your garden, have a look and see if you can see any signs of Spring!

You can take photos or draw a picture of what you have found! You can even try to write a little story about some of the signs of Spring you  noticed when you were out exploring. Use your sound cards that were in the packs to help you sound out some of the trickier words.

If you want to send me some of your fantastic work, I would love to see it!

You could try to make some of your own Spring at work. Here are some examples:

Have a great day in the sun!

Good Morning my super fantastic, wonderful, lovely children!

Miss Bull wanted to send you all a message, ask your adult to read it and then watch the video too!

“I am feeling very overwhelmed today by all of the love you and the incredible staff at St Alberts have shown me this weekend. I am so lucky to work at such an amazing school and to have the joy of teaching you all. It is a place of Love, Happiness and Hope that I miss so dearly. Here is a little message from me to you to say Thank you! Miss Bull”

You are AMAZING! Today, I want you to have a day completely dedicated to you!

o   Choose your favourite breakfast/lunch

o   Listen to your favourite music

o   Read your favourite story

o   Choose your favourite place to go to on your daily walk

o   Play your favourite game

o   Phone your favourite person

o   Watch your favourite movie

o   Eat your favourite snacks

o   Wear your favourite outfit

o   Cuddle your favourite teddy!

Maths – Measure

Use a measuring tape to record how tall you are. Think of a way of recording this – write it in a jotter, make a poster. Every week, measure yourself again and record your results. Find out how much you’ve grown by the end of lockdown.

Can you find something in your house that is:

-the exact same height as you?

-the same length as your shoe?

-longer than your arm?

-shorter than your legs?

Enjoy your day! You are amazing and I love you all very much!

Happy Friday!

Hi Everyone!

It was great to see you all yesterday when I was delivering the packs. As well as working on your packs you can also have a look at Mr Corrigan’s video about Cherry Blossom and if you are out a walk you can see if you can spot any where you live. I found lots of them in Bellahouston Park when I was delivering the packs yesterday.

You can also have a go at creating your own Cherry Blossom picture like Mr Corrigan:

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Hi Everyone!

It would be great if everyone could stay active today and join in with Joe Wicks:

Keep practicing your sumdog questions as there will be another little fun game going up on sumdog tomorrow to see how much you have been learning this week.

Here is a great story about Spring, read by Miss Bull:

Postman Pat shitting himself after Fireman Sam axed for 'being a ...

Keep a look out today as I will be delivering packs of work to all of your houses!!

Let’s talk about our feelings!

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is feeling good, I know it can be hard not getting to visit family and friends but always try to remember that these times will pass.

Here is a little video for you to watch to help you cope with lockdown:

As our focus this week is on Health and Wellbeing, here is  a video of our school assembly from Monday:

Can you write down some of the things that you worry about? After you have done this you can talk to your family about them. This can help you understand that other people might have the same worries as you and that it is okay to be worries about things.

I have also set some new challenges on Sumdog. This week we will focus on measurement. So you can try and complete the sumdog tasks or try some tasks at home:

Picture 1: You can use a coat hanger to see what is heavier!

Picture 2: You can use different cups and buckets of different shapes and sizes to see which one holds the most water!

Picture 3: You can draw around our hand and cut it out then use it to measure different objects in the house!

Have a great day everyone!

Mr Forshaw
