Tuesday 12th May 2020

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you had a lovely long weekend and managed to stay busy and active. As always I can’t wait to see the photographs of what you’ve all been up to and will share them later today so you can all keep in touch with each other.

9:30-10:00: Literacy

Weekend News Writing

In class 1 we print off the pictures from our weekend and share them with our friends.

Then we tell an adult what we’d like to write to accompany the picture, this can be single words or sentences depending on each individual.

Could you do this in one of your jotters? If you don’t have a printer you could draw a picture of something you did instead. Remember it will really help some of us if you dot our words for us to trace like below…

Please remember to send your photos and sentences to me so I can share with everyone later today.

10.00-10.30: If you have time you could also check out Newsround to learn more about what is going on in the world around us.

10:30-11:15: Break Time

11:15-12:15: Maths

Below we have a variety of shape activities for you to choose from.

If you’d prefer not to complete one of these you could make up a shape matching game on cut up scrap paper or draw some shapes and label them in your homework jotter.

12:15-1pm: Lunch

1-1.30 pm: Fine Motor Skills

One of the really important aspects of our daily school life is play. These play based experiences help us make sense of the world around us and also assist in our development of fine and gross motor skills which impacts on our cognitive activity and even our pencil grip etc.

I have attached a suggested activity you could try at home to help develop these skills.

1.30-2.30pm: Science

Follow along with Glasgow Science Centre’s Videos… they have a great you tube channel created by their staff from home during this time. I have linked some videos and an activity below focused on the study of Space and the wider universe. The videos are good fun, I hope you enjoy.

Can you send a teacake into space?

Mars

Now use either your working jotters or the worksheet below to see if you can design your own planet that humans could survive on.

Design A Planet

It will need to have the following things;

*Food Source- are there trees? Other living things?

*Running Water- what does this look like? Rivers? Lakes? How will you ensure it is clean?

*Energy- what’s your energy source? Is it renewable?

See how creative you can be in coming up with ideas!

2-2:30pm: Break Time

2:30-3pm: Story and chat

At the end of each day, we will send you stories to listen to/read. Some of these will be read by your lovely St. Albert’s teachers, others might be by famous authors. To get ready for the story:

  • Get a snack and a drink
  • Get somewhere comfy – on cushions/sofa/bed, under a blanket
  • Get one of your parents or a brother/sister to listen with you

Here are today’s stories:

Listen along to Michelle Obama reading, There’s a Dragon in Your Book. This is a super story read beautifully by the former First Lady of the United States.
