We have had a wonderful start to the year. It has been so lovely to welcome our new P1s and become a new class family. Our P2s have been incredible buddies and have set such a positive example for our younger learners.

In Maths, P2 have been exploring place value and are becoming very confident at making, reading and explaining numbers to 100 and beyond. P1 have been learning about numbers to 10 through lots of fun, hands-on activities and our exciting Number Zoo programme.

P1s have also started our phonics programme, which we successfully piloted last year. They have been exploring their first group of sounds and developing their phonological awareness. P2 have been consolidating the spelling of longer words using the advanced level of the programme, and have been making fantastic progress.

As part of our topic, we have been exploring different types of animals and their habitats. We have been writing information reports and learning about a new animal each week. We can now share so many interesting facts about whales, hedgehogs and tigers, to name just a few! P1 have been focusing on describing animals using interesting vocabulary, while P2 have been writing detailed facts and information reports with increasing confidence.

We were delighted to welcome visitors from Burntisland Hedgehog Hospital. Andy and his wife do incredible work in the local community, and it was fantastic to bring our learning to life by hearing about the important work they do caring for injured hedgehogs.

We were also lucky enough to attend the Fife Orchestra’s YoYo Show in Kirkcaldy. We loved travelling on the bus, watching the performance and learning about the different families of instruments within the orchestra.

Our P1s have been very well looked after by their P7 buddies and have enjoyed spending time with them throughout the term. They are already looking forward to our Buddy Service later in the year.

We are so proud of all the children and the fantastic start they have made to the school year. We look forward to sharing more of our learning and achievements with you over the coming months.
