Health and Wellbeing
Health and wellbeing lies at the heart of the Rosslyn curriculum and is woven throughout every aspect of school life. We recognise the close connection between wellbeing, engagement and learning and strive to ensure that all learners are physically, emotionally and socially ready to participate in meaningful experiences.
Learners’ physical wellbeing is supported through a wide range of personalised approaches, including positioning and movement programmes, specialist equipment, sensory processing activities, movement breaks, physical education, swimming, outdoor learning, cycling, Rebound Therapy and daily personal care routines. These experiences help learners maintain physical health, develop skills, maximise independence and participate as fully as possible in school life.
Equally important is the promotion of emotional wellbeing and self-regulation. We understand that learners communicate their emotional state in diverse ways and that readiness to learn can vary significantly from day to day. Staff work sensitively and responsively to recognise and respond to these changes, adapting expectations, environments and learning experiences to best meet individual needs.
Where appropriate, learners are supported through approaches such as Emotion Works, co-regulation strategies and personalised regulation programmes. Consistent relationships, predictable routines and responsive support help learners develop a sense of safety, belonging and emotional security, creating the conditions necessary for learning and achievement.
Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)
Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood education is delivered through the national resource rshp.scot, adapted appropriately to meet the needs of learners with complex additional support needs. Learning is organised around the nine core themes and is planned in ways that are accessible, meaningful and relevant to individual learners.
To further strengthen partnership working with families, Rosslyn School has developed the Relationships Rucksack, a resource designed collaboratively with parents and carers. This supports continuity of learning between home and school, encourages meaningful conversations and provides families with practical activities and resources that reinforce key learning within familiar contexts.
Through our sensory-informed and learner-centred approach, Rosslyn School aims to ensure that every learner is supported to communicate, participate, develop relationships and engage with the world around them in ways that recognise their individual strengths, needs and aspirations.
