Fife Numeracy and Mathematics Records of Understanding (RUs)

The Records of Understanding matches the boxes on the Fife Mathematics and Numeracy Progression Pathway.  The Records of Understanding can:

  • Allow professionals to effectively track the developmental progression of individual learners. Each statement tile within the Progression Pathways is replicated within the Record of Understanding.
  • Act as an effective tool to aid identification of any gaps in learning or misconceptions that exist. To ensure pace and challenge of learning is maintained between stages and sectors a consistent approach across schools (or even clusters) is recommended.
  • Assists practitioners to justify declarations of achievement for their learners.
  • The R.U. allows each child’s learning to be tracked and can be used as a transition document.
  • Support flexible grouping practices.

The newly formatted RUs were created to support with planning to address identified gaps for individuals or groups of learners.  The following document supports how to set up the newly formatted Records of Understanding GUIDE TO UPDATED NUMERACY RECORD OF UNDERSTANDING

There is an RU for each level.  In addition there is an RU where First Level and Second Level are on the one document that schools might find beneficial to use.
