Friday 27th October

We have had a busy first week back and we have welcomed a new pupil into our class.

We enjoyed celebrating getting our Eco Flag today by wearing blue and green We will carry out a scavenger hunt with our buddies next week. We will also plant plants in our playground that we will look after.

Our new topic this term is Democracy and we have been learning about what Democracy is and thinking about what change we would like to bring about in our local area. We have been learning about Willie Rennie, the MSP for NE Fife, before his visit to class on Monday. We have prepared questions to ask him.

In Literacy, we have been developing our handwriting and comprehension skills. We have also been developing note-taking skills and using these notes to write an information report.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our multiplication and division skills with decimals.

In P.E, we have been developing our fitness and football skills.

We have been learning how to put someone into the recovery position as part of our learning on what to do in an emergency.

We have further developed our skills in Ukulele and are becoming more confident with different chords.

In art, we have been learning about the Pop Artist, Roy Lichtenstein, and we have created self portrait are in his style.

Friday 6th October

We can’t quite believe it is the end of Term 1 already and what a busy term it has been!

P7s have helped host the Harvest service today and also shared some learning about Harvest facts from countries we have travelled to as part of our ‘Race Across the World’. We have concluded our topic, with all teams successfully making it to China within budget. We have learned lots on the way about different countries, we have improved our understanding of the world and we have develop our skills in working with others. Each group shared their learning to the rest of the class.

We have also been presenting in pairs this week about people who inspire us, their personal skills and qualities and how it links to our own skills and ambitions. We have give peer assessment to help develop our presentation skills further.

In writing, we have continued to develop our 500 word stories to submit to the BBC 500 word competition. We have given feedback to each other on our imaginative stories and edited them accordingly.

In Numeracy, we have continued to explore BODMAS, word problems and revised our learning from Term 1.

We have continued to develop our ball skills through team games this week in P.E.

In HWB, we have explored Article 31 and the Right to Play and Relax. We also discussed the Wellbeing Indicators.

Friday 29th September

This week we have been working hard both in school and at home.

We have enjoyed participating in the BBC 500 Word story writing competition, lots of imaginative and original ideas. We will submit our entries next week, once we have edited and given some peer feedback.

In pairs, we have been working on talks to present to the class on inspirational figures. We will share these next week.

In Numeracy, most have been developing their skills in BODMAS and using the correct order of operations.

We have almost reached our final destination of China in our Race Across the World and all groups are using their budgets well and making good decisions. We have carried out research to compare Scotland to China and chose how to present our information.

We have enjoyed singing the songs for the Harvest Service as part of our learning in Music this week.

In Drama, we used the loose parts within our improvisations.

We have worked well in our committees again on Friday, with all members of P7 leading their group with a different focus in each.

Friday 22nd September

P7 are delighted at the success of our cake and candy stall at the school fair. We made just under £400 and we are very grateful for the donations we received to sell, alongside the tray bakes we made. Thank you to everyone.

This week we met again in our Pupil Committees and P7s are leading these Committees, after creating plans for each at the start of the week.

In P.E, we have further developed our skills in basketball and using our team effectively.

We explored the characteristics of a successful learner and looked at the iceberg illusion to show what success can look like to others.

On Thursday, we had a STEM workshop with Fife College and we learned about renewable energy and how to use hydrogen power to give energy to car. We enjoyed testing the cars out.

We have developed our skills in written and mental subtraction this week and also in a problem solving challenge. We have been using Sumdog too.

We enjoyed working with our buddies in the outdoors to identify similarities and differences in our playground.

In writing, we researched well known people who we find inspirational. We wrote personal accounts about why they inspire us.

We are continuing to Race Across the World and we have made it to Istanbul, we are now working in teams to get to Kazakhstan, before we embark on the final leg to China. We have been learning about the countries on route, working well in our teams and using our budgets.

We enjoyed designing our Christmas Cards this week that will be sent away to be printed.

Friday 15th September

This week we have been busy organising our stall for the school Summer Fair. We chose to host the cake and candy stall and on Monday we picked tray bakes we would like to make in groups. We had to calculate how much our ingredients would cost and how much we could sell them for. On Thursday, we made our tray bakes in groups and had to work well together to be organised with our time and ingredients, also to tidy up after ourselves! We all had lots of fun and the tray bakes look great. We are looking forward to hosting the stall on Saturday. Lots of us are making cakes at home as a contribution too.

In our writing this week, we considered our hopes and dreams for the future and wrote in detail about what we think might happen in 10-15 years.

In Maths this week, we worked in pairs to calculate the chance of different events in dice games. In Numeracy, we have been working on our subtraction strategies.

We have explored positive and negative coping strategies in our Health and Wellbeing. In P.E, we have taken our basketball skills into games, thinking about positions.

We enjoyed working with our buddies to create outdoor habitats for living things in our playground as we work towards our John Muir Award. We have also started reading a story with our buddies weekly and they will share these books at home with their special adults.

In our Race Across the World topic, we have travelled from London to Munich via Paris and are now embarking on our most difficult leg yet; Munich to Istanbul. We have been working well in groups using real train and bus timetables, calculating distances, working out our budget and planning our travel from one country to another to reach the check point first. We are learning about landmarks, foods and culture along the route.

Today, we have started committees and each of us will help to lead one of the 5 pupil committees in school to develop our leadership skills.

Friday 8th September

We have enjoyed completing the first part of our Race Across the World as we competed in groups to get from Newport P.S to the London Eye using public transport. We had to work out which bus or train to catch using timetables, calculate the costs of tickets and try to get there as fast as we could. We also identified landmarks along the route and identified a hotel to stay in for a night in London. We will complete the next part next week. In art, we used mixed materials to create a London Skyline.

With our buddies, we explored our school grounds and all of the features it contains. We created maps of the grounds. We have also helped to conserve our school grounds this week by working in teams to collect litter that had gathered. This is all part of our work towards the John Muir Award.

In Writing this week, we have written about our ‘Happy Place’. We used lots of descriptive language, similes, and used our senses to engage the reader.

We have discussed our reading books in groups, with all members taking on a role. We have also created character profiles using information from our books.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our addition skills and using different strategies.

We enjoyed playing with the loose parts in groups today and working together.

In Music, we have continued to developed our Ukulele skills.

We have explored barriers to learning in Health and what the possible solutions might be. We have also been developing our skills in basketball.

 

Friday 1st September

We enjoyed exploring the loose parts with our buddies in a number of challenges today. Lots of good team work and cooperation. We also took part in the whole school daily mile with our buddies.

In Science, we have explored the different ways animals communicate.

In French we have been continuing to develop our speaking and writing skills to introduce information about ourselves.

We have started to play Ukulele this week and have revised C and F chords.

In P.E, we have been developing our skills in cricket and basketball.

This week we have been exploring growth mindset and we looked and what we should and should not say to help develop that further.

We have written personal accounts about a day we would never forget.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring place value up to hundreds of millions.

We have created silhouettes of ourselves in art, filled with the things that make us individuals.

Friday 25th August 2023

This week some members of the class shared their speeches to become Pupil Council Rep for P7. Everyone who took part had prepared well and showed themselves to be Confident Individuals. It was tough to decide on a winner and all 7 participants received votes. The winner will be shared at Monday’s Together Time, along with the results of the House Captain vote from the rest of the school.

We have enjoyed working with our buddies this week, discovering our natural environment and its different colours and textures. We also completed the daily mile with our buddies.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in rounding and estimating. In Maths and ICT, we have explored using spreadsheets to handle data.

In writing, we have written personal letters, thinking about the content and the layout of an informal letter.

We have developed our writing skills in French to share some personal information about ourselves.

In Art, we have created artwork with adjectives that describe each of us as individuals.

This week in P.E, we have developed our skills further in cricket and have started some basketball lessons. In our Health lesson, we explored the characteristics that make up a good learner and had to agree as a group which were most important in a diamond formation.

We have worked well in our groups in our topic learning to create shared presentations about countries across the world.

Friday 18th August 2023

It has been an enjoyable and busy week in Primary 7 and we have enjoyed being back in school and wearing our hoodies for the first time. The weather has been nice and we have been using our outdoor space for different team building games and learning activities. We have worked well together to create our class charter, based on the UNCRC Rights of the Child and the Wellbeing Indicators. We considered the qualities of a good classmate and a good teacher.

We have written our House Captain statements, focusing on our personal skills and qualities and next week the classes will vote on who will become our House Captains for this year.

Our topic is focusing on travel and countries across the world. We began by working in small groups to create a desert island that met all of our basic needs and also the rules the inhabitants of the island would need to follow.

We have also started our new class novel, Journey to the River Sea. We designed front covers based on only the blurb to give us clues as to the title and the illustrations.

We enjoyed meeting with our buddies on Thursday and created special magic wands using outdoor materials, we also learned 3 interesting facts about our buddies in this time.

In P.E, we have enjoyed playing team games and we have started to develop our skills in Cricket.
