Friday 19th April

We have had a busy week back in school.

Congratulations to Isabella for coming first place in the recent HMS Unicorn art competition for P6/7 category.

We have also had news that the 100 word saga stories we wrote last term will be published in an upcoming book.

It was great to see the finished product of the short film we created for the BBC on the River Tay.

We have continued to develop our skills in writing to persuade others and we held a lively class debate.

We have begun looking at a novel that all P7s in the cluster are reading this term, as part of our transition to S1. It is called ‘When Stars are Scattered’.

In Maths we have been learning about properties of 3D shapes and symmetry within 2D shapes and patterns.

We are developing our ukulele skills in preparation for the Big Strum next month.

In P.E, we have been developing our skills in team sports and in athletics, including long distance running.

We have started working in our film production groups for our topic and have been generating ideas for our short films. We presented these ideas during Drama.

In HWB, we have been discussing body image.

Thursday 28th March

We have worked hard this term and this week has been no exception. We have also had exciting visitors and trips this week too.

Thank you to James Colville who visited us on Monday and today to help with constructing the Goblin Kit Car. A team of P7s will represent the school at Cowdenbeath Race Track in May. We are looking forward to designing the car’s exterior once we have finished the construction.

On Tuesday, we attended Madras to participate in a ceilidh along with P7s from across the cluster. It was great fun, and a good way to meet and chat with lots of new people.

We had a visit from Chris Cameron and his team from the local church in Newport, to teach P7s all about the Easter Story through a variety of different activities.

BBC visited us again on Thursday to complete their recordings about the River Tay, ready to share on their website in the near future.

We also had our Spring Service today and P7s shared poems they had written and helped to introduce the other classes.

We enjoyed playing some of our favourite games today in P.E, and also the daily mile with our buddies.

Friday 22nd March

Another busy week of learning in P7.

We enjoyed competing in team challenges during loose parts this week. It was good to see lots of cooperation and creativity on display.

On Thursday, we worked well with our buddies to carry out a spring senses hunt in our playground.

We held an interesting debate about the growing issue of gaming addiction. We made notes about both sides of the debate and then used these to write discussion pieces of writing. We are working on using persuasive language and also using statistics to back up our arguments.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring negative numbers and carrying out different calculations.

We have been learning about sound in movies and the first animated films. We enjoyed creating and presenting our own silent movies in Drama.

In art, we used observation skills to create realistic artwork of daffodils. We also used watercolour paints for effect. We then dissected the daffodils in Science to learn about the parts of a plant.

Today, we have written great senses colour poems all about spring to share at next week’s Spring Service.

We have also been developing our French reading and writing skills.

In P.E, we have continued to work on our hockey skills. We also enjoyed rehearsing the Scottish Dances for next week’s P7 ceilidh at Madras.

Today was our final Committee session of this term and we have reflected on the progress made.

Friday 15th March

We have had a busy week organising and running the Book Fair. It has been a great success and it will help to buy lots of new books for our school.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about how to measure angles and accurately draw triangles. We have been revising finding % of amounts in our mental maths.

We enjoyed designing problem solving challenges for others to solve with the loose parts in our playground.

We held an interesting debate on whether phones should be used in schools. Most agreed they should but responsibly. We have written pieces of writing that include both sides of the debate.

In our topic work, we have been learning about the silent era in the history of film and learned about the iconic star Charlie Chaplin. We have created fact files and also developed our own mime skills in drama.

We have enjoyed exploring the theme of sea in our artwork as we prepare entries for the HMS Unicorn art competition.

In P.E, we have continued to develop our hockey skills and taken these into mini games. We have also been exploring creative dance in groups.

In Health and Wellbeing, we continued to look at peer pressure and the topic of vaping. We have made persuasive posters to encourage others not to vape.

In French, we have developed our listening and writing skills linked to weather and geography.

Today, we worked well with others in our committees with children from across the school.

Friday 8th March

On Monday, we shared our experience of Dalguise with the whole school at Together Time, and then with our families in the afternoon. A huge thanks to everyone who managed to come along to hear about what we learned, the skills we developed and our greatest achievements.

We have started our new topic, The History of Film and Film-Making, by learning about the early days of film and we are looking forward to creating our own films later in the topic.

In Numeracy, we have been carrying out calculations involving the 4 operations and have revisited finding equivalent fractions in our mental maths. We have also been exploring circles and angles within a triangle.

We enjoyed participating in a national writing competition this week, where we had to write a 100 word saga based on a crazy creature! It was fun to let our imagination run wild. Winning entries will be published in a book.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about peer pressure linked to smoking. In P.E, we have developed our skills further in hockey. We enjoyed creating dances in other P.E session. We also participated in a quiz and designed new covers for our favourite books as part of World Book Day. There were lots of fantastic costumes on display!

We are running the book fair for the next few days, helping the other classes and judging a whole school competition. Our House Captains have also helped organise a whole school inter-house archery competition. Today, we also helped run our pupil committees.

Friday 1st March

It has been a busy week after our trip to Dalguise. We have spent this week preparing to share our learning with the rest of the school and our families on Monday 4th March.

We have also written recounts based on our experiences last week, using the correct layout.

In Numeracy, we have been using the Speed, distance, time formula to carry out calculations. We have also been revising finding fractions of amounts.

In P.E, we have been developing our skills in hockey and we have been working on creating sequences in groups in gymnastics.

We enjoyed exploring the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and we have created our own artwork of the rose based on his work.

We have continued to develop our Ukulele skills as we prepare to attend the Big Strum at the Rothes Halls in May.

It is the job of P7s to organise and run the book fair and we have created advertising for this to share around our school.

Well done to our quiz team of Harry, Niamh, Brodie and Harrison for representing P7 in the Rotary Quiz on Wednesday evening. They came first place and now go into the next round!

We helped lead our committee groups again today with pupils from across the school.

Friday 9th February 2024

We have had several visitors to our class this week, including families who were able to join in with the learning on Wednesday morning. Thank you for coming.

Today, we enjoyed another Science workshop, this time with Alfie’s mum who teaches at Dundee and Angus College. We explored what bacteria look like and tested to see what was on our hands. We also used microscopes and created our own yeast slides. It was a very interesting morning.

We also had visitors from Barnardo’s charity today to explore different substances, including legal and illegal, to develop our understanding.

On Tuesday, we had visitors from Madras; Mr Currie (HT) and Mr Wishart (DHT).  They answered all of our questions related to transition to High School. Thank you to them for visiting.

This week, we have been developing our skills in script writing and we have linked our scripts to WW2. We have been focusing on using all of the correct features in a script and have been peer assessing with our friends to check. In our topic work, we have been carrying out some personal research to find out about the impact of WW2 in different countries. We will share our findings next week to others.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring time further, including timetables and problems involving speed, distance and time calculations.

We have been developing our skills in French in listening to information and recording our findings relating to weather and countries.

We enjoyed working with our buddies as we continue our progress with the John Muir Award. We looked to conserve our school playground by tidying and collecting litter that may cause harm to living things.

Today was our final Skills Academy session for this block of learning and have all enjoyed developing our skills in a specialist area and working with others from across the school.

 

Friday 2nd February 2024

This week we have worked together to share our learning at a celebration of all things Scottish with our parents and families. This is included Scottish dances, poems and songs and information about the life of Robert Burns. We even had a toast to the lassies and a reply to the laddies. We enjoyed making shortbread for everyone to enjoy. We are very proud of the contribution everyone made to this event.

In writing, we have worked hard to edit our imaginative stories and we worked closely with a friend to self and peer assess and set targets to improve.

We have been developing our skills in time, including world times and timetables in Numeracy this week.

In our topic of WW2, we have been carrying out individual research into the different counties involved and choosing how to share our learning. We will present this to the whole class.

We are participating in the HMS Unicorn Sea Art Competition and developing our own ideas around the brief.

We enjoyed a visit from Eiliyah’s Mum to teach us about her work in Microbiology and we enjoyed conducting experiments as part of our learning in Science.

All pupils attended their chosen skills academy today too.

Friday 26th January 2024

Today, some of the class represented the school at a Fife Athletics competition and they all did very well. We all took part in the next part of the Skills Academy the afternoon: from Lego to baking skills.

In our topic work, we have been exploring rationing and propaganda posters and we have created some of our own posters.

We have been developing our imaginative writing skills, following on from creating our character and setting. We have all planned and written the start of our stories.

In our Numeracy and Maths work, we have been exploring different aspects of time.

We have been planning for our Scottish Afternoon next week and continuing to learn Scottish Dances. Everyone shared their Burns’ poems in class on Wednesday and Thursday.

In P.E, we continued to develop our gymnastic skills, along with our dancing. In Health and Wellbeing, we have continued to explore the theme of kindness.

 

Friday 19th January

Another busy week of learning in P7!

We have been focusing on kindness as part of our learning in Health and Wellbeing and kind words we can use towards other.

In RME, we have been learning about Bar and Bat Mitzvah and have shared our learning in informative posters.

In Numeracy and Maths, we have continued to develop our understanding of data handling, including Venn Diagrams and mean, mode, median and range.

This week in writing, we have created interesting settings linked to WW2, focusing on our use of adjectives. We have been learning about rationing and the propaganda that was used during WW2.

We have been practising our Burns poems and have created illustrations to help us understand the meanings behind them.

In P.E, we have been developing our skills in Scottish Dance and also in gymnastics.

With our Buddies, we are taking part in the Big Birdwatch and and have observed the different types of birds we have found in our playground.

We are continuing to develop our skills in Ukulele, learning some Scottish songs.

In Science, we have started to explore Microbiology and its impact on humans. We have conducted an experiment by wiping bread on different surfaces and we will observe the results over the next week.

We all enjoyed taking part in the Skills Academy sessions today.
