Friday 20th September

This week we have been continuing to work on our full stops and capital letters while the p3’s have been learning about using connectives to make our sentences more interesting. P2’s have been learning to measure in hands and feet. They have been measuring lots of different objects in the classroom. P’3s have been learning to measure in centimetres and have been using rulers to estimate and measure accurately.

For outdoor learning we had a challenge to see who could build the tallest stick tower! We used cooperation, teamwork and engineering skills to have success. We used a metre stick to measure how tall our towers were. The tallest tower was a whopping 2.5m tall!

In art we learnt about the artist Georgia O’keefe and created our own graphic flowers in her style. In science we were continuing to learn about germs and we had the opportunity to role play doctors to diagnose some common viruses. We have also been learning about different strategies for overcoming challenges in school. Finally, we started Committees this week. Asks us about which committee we are in and what we have been up to.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

What a lovely sunny week! We made the most of it and took our learning outside when we could. We enjoyed practising football skills and encouraging each other in games. We worked in teams to build bridges using loose parts in a ‘floor is lava’ game. We also took our reading books to the nursery garden. We love reading outside!

Thursday 12th September with Mrs Robertson

Today we have been learning about how easily germs can spread. We did a very interesting experiment where we used glitter to represent germs. one person put the glitter on their hands and we saw how quickly it spread onto everyone else and onto different surfaces. We discussed the different times we should wash our hands and why and we also spoke about the importance of using soap and not just water. Mrs Robertson showed us an experiment that illustrated how effective soap can be against germs. We all wanted to try this at home so the instructions have been uploaded. Finally we created hand washing super heroes to remind us to wash our hands. next week we will be looking at the best way to wash our hands and we hope to make a video. Why Soap Works Experiment Instructions Activity

In maths, we looked at measure. The primary 2’s were comparing three or more lengths and we found out that Logan is the tallest in the class at the moment. The Primary 3’s were learning to estimate and measure in metres. We measured windows, doors and even the classroom!

In outdoor learning we made small animal homes in groups after watching a nation geographic kids video. We all had lots of fun as we carefully considered which materials to use and where to build. I wander if any bugs or animals will move in?

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs  Meiklem

We enjoyed celebrating mistakes this week! We talked about the strategies we can use if we are stuck with our work and drew our own ‘stuck stop’ film strips.
We created our own imaginative stories in our big writing lesson and liked reading them out to our friends. please have a look at our star writers if you are in our room this week.
In PE we played mini football games. We are learning about finding space and communication.
We did our reading outside in the nursery garden this week. It was lovely to read in the fresh air while the rest of the class played.
We are looking forward to showing you our classroom on Thursday evening at the open evening.

Thursday and Friday with Mrs Robertson

We have been learning about the ‘Magical Yet’. It is a lovely story about the power of the word yet and stepping out of our comfort zones to climb the resilience steps. We have learnt that progress is more important than perfection, everyone learns at their own pace, its ok to ask for help and most importantly, changing I can’t do it to I can’t do it yet. We enjoyed discussing the different steps involved and thought about what we wanted to learn and where we are on the steps.

We have also been learning about the American artist Grant Wood. We painted farm landscapes in the style of the artist, including lots of detail in our patterns. We also used lines, water colour and simple perspective.

We have been learning the skills for netball and played small netball games today. We used our throwing and catching skills but we had to be careful not to move when we had the ball.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week has been all about our trip to Friarton Farm! First we all took part in a poster competition for the strawberry shed. Farmer Keith and Farmer Ailsa chose 4 posters to be displayed in the shed. Please look out for them!
Luckily Tuesday was a lovely sunny day and we had “the best day ever!” picking and eating berries! We learned about how the bees pollinate the strawberries and how they grow.
On Wednesday we turned our home corner into a farm shop and started a display about our trip. We decided to make bumble bee art using sponges and worked together to make posters. We worked in pairs to deliver a class talk about the farm in small groups.
In PE we practised football dribbling and passing skills.
Look out for homework packets. They will go out on Wednesday and please return them by Monday.

Friday 30th August 2024

This week we became land artists like Andy Goldsworthy and created our own natural, outdoor artworks. We used different natural materials and tried to use different textures, colours and patterns.

In P.E we have been improving our ball skills. We have played games and practised our throwing and catching in lots of different ways. Our favourite game was dodgeball and we love using the scoops and balls to practice.

In maths we have been learning how to measure using different lengths. Some of us have used non standard units, such as hand spans and others have been using metre sticks. We all enjoyed making different sized crafts with beads, pipe cleaners and straws…

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

We have had a busy week so far. We have made our class charter and talked about our rights. We also made our own 5 point scale and shared strategies that make us feel better.
We used the iPads to log in to Sumdog independently and also did some addition work.
We have done lots of writing this week. We wrote a recount about our weekend and also a description of the main character in our book ‘Pirate Sparklebeard’! In our Big Writing lesson we made up our own imaginative stories and they were fabulous! Some of us went to read them to Miss Donaldson and she was very impressed.

We had Loose Parts on Tuesday and we made our own pirate ships in groups, learning to work together and follow the FAIR agreement. In drama we played some games using different character voices and mime.
PE was fun with lots of throwing and catching games to music!
Mrs Meiklem heard us all reading this week and was so impressed at everyone’s hard work.
Our class trip to Friarton farm is next Tuesday. Please remember to send in your form.

Friday 23rd August 2024

We have all enjoyed our first few days back after the summer break. We have loved catching up with our friends and meeting our new teachers. We have been busy sharing and writing about our holidays. We learnt about Mrs Robertson and made all about me pictures to help everyone get to know each other.

We started learning about the Wellbeing Indicators which are important to help us be the best we can be. We set up different stations, in the classroom, for each indicator. Our favourites were the safe indictor where we got to cosy up with soft toys, blankets and pillows and listen to stories and the healthy indicator station where we ate apples and bananas and played healthy I spy.

We enjoyed Loose parts play outside where we had to work well as a team, communicate and problem solve. We made some very cool structures!
