Week Beginning 22/1/24


Happy Friday!

We loved our visit to the library this week. Pauline read the Book Bug bag books to us. She was delighted with our front cover designs. She is going to display them in the library.

Topic- We were learning about schools in The Victorian Times.

Literacy- We all enjoyed reading our reading books this week.

P1- new sounds were oi and ue.

P2-new spelling words and common words to learn.

Writing- We wrote a story about Greyfriars Bobby. We had to remember capital letters, full stops, finger spaces. joining words and WOW words.

Maths/Numeracy-We have been learning about o clock, half past and quarter past on a digital display. We are almost finished our addition learning and will be moving onto subtraction.

Health- We listen to ‘Chrysanthemum’ by Keith Henkes . Every time someone was unkind in the story we had to wrinkle our hearts. When somebody was kind in the story we unwrinkled our hearts.

PE-We enjoyed taking part in the whole school daily mile. We also have loved learning different Scottish dances.

P1 enjoyed working with P1 this week doing Scottish themed activities.

P2 enjoyed taking part in their skills academys.

Week Beginning 15/1/24


Happy Friday!

We have had a great week in Primary 1/2. Lots of fun learning.

Maths/Numeracy- We have been working on our addition learning . We have also been telling the time on an analogue and digital displays – o’clock and half past. We have also been finding the time one hour /two hours later /before .
We enjoyed some time playing Sum Dog.

Literacy- We all enjoyed our reading books this week. We had to write a story about meeting the Loch Ness monster . We loved using our imaginations for this job.
P1 new sounds were qu and ou.

Topic- We were learning about Queen Victoria. We drew a detailed picture and had 4 facts to write about her.

Art- We painted a very cool picture of the Loch Ness Monster. This will be displayed in the hall 🙂

Outdoor Learning – We enjoyed some time exploring the school garden.

PE-We love Scottish dancing. We were able to teach the Primary 1 class two of our dances .

P2 enjoyed taking part in their skills academy group.

P1 enjoyed working with Miss Smith doing Scottish songs and art work.

Happy Friday!

We have had a fun and busy week in Primary 1.

Numeracy/ Maths – We have been continuing to work on our addition to 10/20/100 learning . We enjoyed some time on Sum Dog. We have been learning to tell the time . Primary 1 made their own analogue clocks to help them their learning . Primary 2 did a little revision on o ‘clock and half past .

Literacy – We all enjoyed our reading books this week . We have been practising our key words.
We wrote lovely poems about the snow.
Primary 1 were learning new sounds – oo and ng.
Primary 2 had a spelling assessment to work on .

We listened to the story ‘ A Bucket Full of Kindness’. We discussed ways to be kind to ourself and others. We have a class kindness bucket we can fill.

Art – We made very cool snowmen looking up into the snowy sky. We had to do a lot of cutting and sticking for this job.

PE-We loved learning different Scottish dances. We were working with a partner and in a small group. We enjoyed running /walking the daily mile.

Outdoor learning – P2 used flour and natural materials to make snowmen and P1 worked with their P7 buddies to explore the properties of materials in their outdoor environment.

Loose Parts- In small groups we made our own snowmen and ladies .

Happy New Year !
I hope you all had a lovely holiday.

PE- We have been doing some Scottish dancing . This was so much fun .

Numeracy- We have been working hard on our addition to 10/20/100 learning .

Literacy – We did a little bit of drawing and writing about our holidays. We had to remember our capital letters , full stops and finger spaces in the correct places .

Our new topic is to learn about The Victorians.

We enjoyed making our own inventions in small groups using the loose parts . We made sweetie machines, flying bikes, flying boats, snake catchers and animal rescuers. This was lots of fun.

Week Beginning 18/12/23


Happy Wednesday and Happy Holidays!!

We finished making our Christmas cards ready to bring home .
We made lovely calendars. They look beautiful.
We loved our Christmas party. Lots of dancing and party games. We got a surprise visit from Santa.

We enjoyed the Christmas cinema – we watched ‘The Nativity’.
We loved the Newport Primary Schools Top Ten Christmas songs! Lots of singing.

We made our own igloos using marshmallows.
This was lots of fun.

We learned a little about how French children celebrate Christmas.

Week Beginning 6/12/23


Happy Festive Friday from P1/2!

We have had another great week.

We loved making Christmas cards and gift bags for members of our local community. We know how much it will make them smile.

We all enjoyed our pupil committees this week.

P1 are working hard on practising their Christmas show. Primary 2 have enjoyed learning with all the Primary 2’s. They have been experimenting with loose parts, doing some art and singing.

Literacy- We loved writing imaginative story about going to a Polar land and meeting an animal. We had to think about the animal we met, how we felt and what adventure we went on. Mrs Carmichael says that we are all star writers.
We all enjoyed our reading books this week .
P1 have been learning the sounds oa and ie.
P2 have been working hard on their spelling words.

Numeracy/Maths- We have been working hard on our addition to 10/20/100 learning. We have also been working hard on our money learning.

French- We have been learning numbers to 10 in French and the days of the week.

Happy Festive Friday!

We have had a very busy and fun week in P1/2.

We loved all of our Festive Friday celebrations. We made lovely Christmas baubles. They look great on our display board around the hall.
P1 decorated the school Christmas tree with their P7 buddy. P2 decorated our class Christmas tree. They look beautiful.

Maths/Numeracy- We have been working hard on our money work. Drawing coins we would use to buy different items.
We have been continuing our addition to 10/20/100 work.

Literacy- P1 have been learning their new sounds- th and ai.
Primary 2 were writing sentences using their spelling words. They also were learning when to us ‘an’ instead of ‘a’ before a word. If the word begins with a vowel we write ‘an’.
We all enjoyed our reading books this week.
We created a factfile for our chosen Polarland animal. We had to write what they ate, where they lived, interesting facts about them and what their babies were called.

Miss Allan was working with us on Wednesday.

PE- We have been continuing to work hard on improving our fitness by doing different exercise to music. We enjoyed taking part in the whole school mile.

Outdoor Learning- We enjoyed exploring the school garden. This was fun but very cold.

We have been practising their Christmas songs for the church and our Christmas show ‘A Wriggly Nativity’.

Week Beginning 20/11/23


Happy Friday!

We have had another busy and fun week in P1/2.

Our favourite day was our trip to ‘The Discovery’. We loved all the activities .
Lots of new learning for us.

Maths/Numeracy – We have been working hard on our addition to 10/20 learning.
We enjoyed some time on Sum dog this week .
We have been continuing with our money work. We have been practising counting the value of coins.

Literacy – We have enjoyed our reading books this week.
P1 have been learning the sounds ch and sh.
P2 had their spelling words to practise . They were also learning about dictionaries and putting letters into alphabetical order.

PE- We have continued to work on our fitness by doing different exercises to music . We also took part in the daily mile.

We all enjoyed our committees learning this week.

We enjoyed making a machine to be used in the Polar Lands. We worked together in a group and used lots of loose parts .

Week Beginning 13/11/23


Happy Friday from Primary 1/2!

We have enjoyed celebrating book week this week.
We have enjoyed reading stories in our special Book bags. We have designed front covers for our favourite books and made book reviews. We loved meeting an author called Robert Tregoning. He read us one of his stories called ‘The Dress in the Window’. We had a dance to do and a drawing. This was so much fun.

Numeracy/Maths- We have been working on our coin recognition, counting coins and laying out coins to buy different items from the shop.
We have been working hard on our addition to 10/20 learning. We love playing different games.

Art- We sketched amazing pictures of Orcas. They look great on our classroom wall.

Drama- We were role playing being polar bears. This was so much fun.

PE-We loved working on our fitness by doing different exercises to music.

P1- We have started listening to the songs for our Nativity called ‘Wriggly Nativity’.

We all enjoyed doing different activities at our committees this week.

Literacy- We had to write instructions on how to wash our hands. We used key words to help us- First, Next, Then and Finally.
We all enjoyed our reading books this week.
