Mrs Ferguson’s P5b class
Topic
Our topic in Term 4 is Our Dynamic Earth. We are reading an adventure novel, Earthquake Terror by Peg Kehret, about two children in the midst of a natural disaster. We will be using the novel for weekly comprehension questions and also some writing tasks. For this project, we will be looking at areas such the structure of planet earth, types of rock, types of natural disaster, what to do if a disaster strikes and climate change.
PE
Gym is still on a Tuesday morning. Miss Roy will teach gym and asks that all pupils come to school on a Tuesday with suitable gym kit on. Whilst gym will mostly be inside in the gym hall, pupils should come with a suitable jacket in case gym is outside.
Homework
Homework will be issued on a Wednesday and should be done by the next Monday. Homework to be done will be uploaded to this website. There will be a mixture of language, maths and other tasks linked to, for example, Topic, French or Health. These will consolidate our learning in class.
Reading will usually be issued on the Monday, to be done for the next Monday. Please take time to read with your child and encourage good pace and expression, as well as helping them with any difficult vocabulary or punctuation. Please sign their Reading Record, so I can track that children are doing their reading.

Wednesday 7th May 2025 – Homework (due by Monday 12th May 2025)
*Literacy
1.Reading pages – these were issued on Monday and written in your Reading Record. Try to get a parent to hear at least part of your reading. Concentrate on expression, pace and noticing the punctuation. Ask a parent to sign your Reading Record.
Please make sure your reading book is brought in every Monday so I can hear you read on Monday or Tuesday.
REMEMBER Reading for Pleasure! – keep reading for enjoyment, as well as just doing your homework reading. Try to read a book of your choice for at least 10 mins every night. Be ready to tell me what you are reading and whether you would recommend it to your classmates. Happy reading!
2.Spelling – Please practise your set of spelling words from last week, using www.spellingtraining.com
*ICT
In computing, we use keyboards to type. There are correct fingers for each key on the board. If we learn to type using the correct fingers, we will be able to type much quicker when we are older. If you can, use the following website to practise using the correct fingers:
https://www.typingclub.com/sportal/program-3.game
Keep practising and you will be able to type faster and more accurately!
Good luck with this week’s homework!
