At Lawhead Primary School and Nursery we are committed to removing all barriers that may get in the way of pupils participating and enjoying their learning.
We have examined the school day under the headings of uniform, travel, learning, friendship & community, school trips, eating, clubs and home learning. The table below outlines the measures in place in our school to mitigate the Cost of the School Day.
Uniform | · School clothing grant is actively promoted on our weekly newsletter
· We have a well-stocked uniform exchange that is always available · Branded school uniform is not required · We are sensitive to pupils with sensory issues who may require adapted school uniform · Referrals can be made to local groups who can support with clothing e.g. ‘Pass It On Peeps’ |
Travel | · We actively promote the under 22 free travel card and can help parents with the application process
· We have a walking bus every Friday that is ran by parent volunteers · We liaise and support families where pupils are entitled to free school transport · We use the Madras minibus for outings · We encourage car sharing to after school events |
Learning | · There are no costs for any learning activities in school
· We provide all necessary equipment for all pupils · Pupils can be provided with PE kit and a change of shoes if required · We have a stock of clothing for outdoor learning if required · Bikes can be provided for Bikeability training |
Friendship & Community | · All school events such as the Halloween disco are open to all learners. Families can donate at the door if they wish.
· We run a Halloween costume exchange every October · We run a Christmas jumper swap every December · We have a book swap every March for World Book Day |
School Trips | · All school trips (with the exception of the P7 residential) are free
· Part or full costs of the P7 residential can be covered by the school or by applications to a local trust. The cost of the residential is subsidized by the school. · We plan excursions carefully with a focus on the benefit to learners and maximise opportunities within our local area |
Eating | · All nursery and P1-5 pupils are entitled to free school meals
· Parents are encouraged to apply for free school meals with links shared on our weekly newsletter · All nursery pupils can access snack. Parents can donate to the nursery fund if they wish but this is not mandatory · Breakfast bars and fruit are available for any pupil who may miss breakfast · We can support families with referrals to the local food bank or other groups |
Clubs & Extra Curricular Opportunities | · All lunchtime and after school clubs are free
· We work closely with our Active Schools coordinator to ensure equity of opportunity for all |
Home Learning | · All home learning tasks are deigned to offer personalisation and choice – the school will provide anything a child may need if they do not have access to it
· We run a drop in homework club |
Other Supports | · Free period products are available in all bathrooms
