Supporting EAL learners

Mrs Clunie’s English as an Additional Language Support Groups

January 2022 update

Primary 2/3’s are reading the story “Handa’s Surprise” and completing lots of lovely language activities based on the story. We are hoping to do some drama based around the story and will make a short video so everyone can see it.

The Primary 4 children are currently being supported in class alongside Miss McDonald. We are working hard on our colourful semantics to make our sentences absolutely fabulous!

Primary 5,6 and 7 are following the whole school “Scotland” theme. They have been learning about Scottish Wildlife and life in Scottish Cities.

In all our learning together, the children are encouraged to speak and use their first languages as much as possible. This supports the development of their English and promotes inclusion. It’s also fun learning the vocabulary in lots of languages!

The Primary 4 children are currently being supported in class alongside Miss McDonald. We are working hard on our colourful semantics to make our sentences absolutely fabulous! Our favourite sentences were about the Rainforest which is our topic this term.

Primary 5,6 and 7 are continuing to work on developing their sentence structure. We are looking at pictures and following the colourful semantics approach to improve our sentences.

In all our learning together, the children are encouraged to speak and use their first languages as much as possible. This supports the development of their English and promotes inclusion. It’s also fun learning the vocabulary in lots of languages!
