Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.
The week that’s been…
It has been a very strange week at KHS…On Tuesday we arrived at KHS to find that we had no running water. After investigation, it was found that the water main was not working and water was flooding the PE car park. As a result, we had to close the school to all but those sitting their SQA examinations. We are incredibly sorry for the late notice; however, this was out with our control.
In terms of the SQA examinations, these have continued throughout the week with National 5 and Advanced Higher English Tuesday, Spanish (all levels) on Wednesday, English Higher and National 5 Practical Cookery on Thursday followed by National 5 Dance and RMPS (all levels) today. As ever, our young people continue to show amazing positivity and resolve in undertaking these qualifications. Special mention to those sitting English on Tuesday and having to do so with the water issues. Well done to all.
On Thursday, we had our final INSET day of the session. Staff from across the school shared their work to all staff around key areas of school improvement – Curriculum, Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Well-being and support and finally Raising Attainment and Achievement. It was a great showcase and highlighted lots of work that is supporting our continued improvement. In the afternoon, staff collaborated on next steps for our School Improvement Plan, sharing ideas through professional discussion.
Moving into next session we will continue to work across the 2 key areas of focus from this session around Curriculum / Learning, Teaching and Assessment and Well-being / Support. I hope to share our draft improvement plan with you in June to consult with our community on our proposed plans. A huge thank you to all those who completed our parent / carer survey as this has helped to inform and shape our planning for next session.
Today we had some of our prospective S1s visit as part of their enhanced transition to KHS. It was great to meet and speak to them as they arrived and took part in the transition activities. We look forward to seeing them again very soon.
As ever, please check on our blog to keep up to date with all the latest goings on and celebrate the success of our young people too.
The week ahead…
