Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.
The week that’s been…
It has been a very busy week here at KHS, and I am glad to report it has been a spooktacular experience for our young people! 🎃
On Monday afternoon, our S5s took part in the annual Safe Drive, Stay Alive assembly. Safe Drive Stay Alive is a road safety initiative that aims to empower young drivers to make safe driving choices, whether they are behind the wheel or with friends. It is an emotive assembly that hits hard to support the wider message. Young people were supported by their guidance teachers throughout.
This week, we also welcomed Mark Brown back to KHS. Mark Brown works with small groups of young people, delivering his Best Of You programme. This programme is aimed at students who struggle in school, due a variety of things. The programme aims to tackle and respectfully challenge these issues and ensure that participants graduate with an abundance of skills and new behaviours to help them create their own future. Well done to this weeks participants who all successfully graduated from the programme today!
On Wednesday, we also held our second Parent / Carer evening of the session, with families of S1 invited to meet with teachers and discuss the varied learning opportunities across their first term here at KHS. It was a great to welcome families and young people to KHS and was great to see the engagement and feel the buzz.
We also had some mixed success in sporting pursuits this week. The U18 boys team won their Scottish Senior Shield game, beating Carnoustie HS 6-3. The boys rallied from being 1-0 down to leading 3-1 at half time. The Senior Girls team also showed some real grit and determination, coming back from 4-0 down to draw 4-4 in their league game with Waid Academy. Our S1 team were also in action but were beaten in their Scottish Shield match. They showed a great attitude and determination but were unfortunate to lose. Well done to all involved for showing the values and qualities of KHS!
Finally, we now have our school Facebook page up and running www.facebook.com/kirkcaldyhighschool. Please join us and follow all the successes and joys of KHS!
The week ahead…
Next week, we mark Remembrance week with house assemblies, followed by Remembrance Sunday.
As I write todays log, I have been notified that the strike action due to take place on Wednesday is no longer going ahead so school will be open to all on this day.
On Friday, we have our third INSET day where we will be focussing on developing our curriculum, School Improvement Groups and well-being.
Again, I would like to give you advance notice of the next Parent Council meeting, which is due to take place on Tuesday 14th November at 6pm. Again, this will be online. I will send all parents / carers an agenda and link over the next week.
I hope you and your family have a good weekend when it comes!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
