Rector’s Log 02/06/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

Where has the week gone? It has flown in here at KHS!

First up is a massive congratulations to our U15 Boys Football team who have completed the league and cup double by winning the Fife cup last Friday evening. Well done to all involved and thank you to Mr Pennel and all staff involved in supporting our young people in the many extracurricular opportunities on offer here in KHS.

On Monday, we welcomed our new S1s to KHS to take part in the P7 sport day organised by Robert Greehorn, our active schools co-ordinator. All young people enjoyed an afternoon of varied sporting activities through a mix of track and field events. A fantastic transition event that allowed our new S1 to mix and enjoy some time together. Thank you to Mr Greehorn for organising this and all staff from the various cluster and non-associated schools involved.

On Wednesday, the last of the SQA examinations took place for this year. We wish all candidates the very best for their results in August.

Today, our new S6 took part in the S6 induction day organised by Mr Sanderson (acting PTG). The S6 took part in a variety of events today, aimed at bring them together as a team and focussing on the opportunities ahead.

We also announced our new Head Boy and Head Girl…Lewis Stokoe and Miren Grant. Well done to both on this fantastic achievement. It has been a tough process for all with presentations and voting taking place over the past couple of weeks. We also announced the rest of the S6 leadership team and congratulations to Natalie Laing and Kerriss Elder taking on the role of Deputy Head Girl and Liam Ritchie and Sahil Siddique taking on the role of Deputy Head Boy. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward in this process also.

I also wish to thank all our S3 prefects for their work and support over the study leave period. They have been outstanding in their duties and a true credit to themselves, family and KHS. Thank you!

In other news, congratulations to all young people involved in the Mathematiques sans Frontieres 2023 competition. I am delighted to share that our Senior team came 7th in this competition across Scotland and were the highest placed Fife school team.

Lastly, we have some staffing changes to update you on. Today, we say goodbye to two members of staff who leave KHS to move on to pastures new. We say good bye to Kris Fraser (Teacher of DET) who is moving on to a new role as PT Technologies at Levenmouth Academy. We also say a fond farewell to Kelly Robertson (Clerical Assistant) who moves to a new post outwith education. We wish both well.

The week ahead…

Please remember that there is an upcoming holiday on Monday 5th June followed by a staff INSET day on Tuesday 6th June. KHS will be closed to young people on these days.

At our INSET day, we will be focussing on our School Improvement Plan, ensuring that we focus on continued improvement to support positive outcomes for all our young people.

A reminder also that Wednesday 7th June is the start of the new timetable. Young people were given their timetables out in Tutor today. Any young person who was absent, will receive their new timetable on Wednesday at Tutor. All S5 should attend the assembly hall for a welcome back assembly and to receive their new timetables. Finally, subjects on timetables for S4-6 will have a level set. It is worth noting that this level will be amended in August and is not indicative of the level of study for young people.

I hope you have an enjoyable (long) weekend

Best wishes

Chris McKay
