Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 26/05/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

It has been an incredibly busy week here at KHS with so many varied activities taking place.

On Monday and Tuesday, we had the Police and Youth Justice Scotland team in speaking and workshopping with the S3 year group. The team delivered an Interactive session on choices and consequences which was well received by our young people. Thank you to Mrs Dempsey for organising this event for our young people.

We also welcomed all of our P7s to KHS this week over Monday, Tuesday and Friday. They were taking part in a transition event organised by Mr Walsh (Teacher of Business) around digital learning and skills. All young people had an amazing time, enjoying their learning and settling in well to KHS. Thank you to Mr Walsh and our Business Studies and Computing Faculty for organising and supporting.

Some of our young people in S3 attended the Beyond the CV Conference at Dynamic Earth on Tuesday as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award. Thank you to Ms Wallace for organising and supporting this trip.

On Wednesday, Maria Lloyd, Head of Secondary Education, visited KHS to take part in a Q and A with young people in S2 and S3. Around 30 young people were involved with 8 young people asking Maria questions about how Fife Council were supporting them and our school community on areas such as social media misuse, bullying and safety in schools. Well done to all involved.

Today, we have had our S3 first chances group out attending St Andrews University and following the first chances programme. Thank you to Mr Dick and Ms Crichton for organising and supporting this event.

Lastly, huge congratulations to all those who took part in this years KHS Sports Day, you all did yourselves proud. Special mention to all our event winners, we had some excellent times and scores today! It was a lovely afternoon in the sun, celebrating our sporting talent within the school and we hope to have even more involved in the day next year. Special thanks for all the pupils who came along to help out, you also did a great job! Thank you to all staff who helped to support the event and to Mrs Steedman and Miss Kirkwood for organising such a great event.

The week ahead…

Next week, SQA examinations continue but finish on Wednesday 31st May, with S6 Induction day taking place on Friday 2nd June.

Further information and more school updates will be emailed to all parents / carers on Monday 29th May.

Next week is also Sustainability week here at KHS and all young people will be continuing to learn about their rights through various lessons.

Please remember that there is an upcoming holiday on Monday 5th June followed by a staff INSET day on Tuesday 6th June. KHS will be closed to young people on these days.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend

Best wishes
