Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.
The week that’s been…
It is unbelievable to think that another week has passed here at KHS! The weeks are passing very quickly but lots of exciting opportunities for our young people too.
We marked Mental Health week in school, with young people taking part in a lesson through Tutor class aimed at ensuring all young people are aware of how important mental health is and steps and supports for this.
This week, we had another group of young people taking part in an introductory session with Lift Off. Lift Off is a project run by Abertay University that aims to increase aspirations and support transition to Higher Education and other positive destinations for targeted young people.
Our Interact group were also busy this week, completing a litter pick around the community and Den area. Mrs Davidson was full of praise for the group and was amazed at their dedication and will to do more for the community.
SQA examinations also continued for young people in S4-6 with examinations in French, Business Management, Engineering Science, Physics, Modern Studies and Fashion and Textile. Well done to all young people for their hard work and preparation.
Some staffing news now and congratulations to Mrs Duckett who has taken on the role of acting PT Music, with Mrs Simpson going on maternity leave. Mrs Duckett takes up this post from Monday. Congratulations to Georgia Boyce who was successful at interview on Monday for the position of Teacher of English. Ms Boyce starts her post in August.
Following the retirement of Ms Diamond, we are now seeking a permanent Depute Head Teacher. An advert is now live for this post and we hope to appoint an exceptional candidate!
As ever, please find below information from Mrs Whyte regarding DYW:
A lot of pupils will be looking to gain some work experience, this is a great opportunity to give you a flavour of the world of work and ‘try out’ a profession. If this is something, you are interested in there is a form to complete on the padlet. There is also a great opportunity for any S5 pupils who are looking to study medicine.
For anyone looking to leave school there are a number of vacancies including – apprenticeships in Admin, at Scotrail, Exxon, Babcock and Sky Television advertised. As well as a range of part and full time jobs.
The week ahead…
Next week, SQA examinations continue. Masterclasses continue to support young people with final preparations for their examinations.
