Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 28/04/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

Firstly, congratulations to the U16 football team who played St Andrews High School in the final of the Fife Cup at Bayview last Friday and came away 2 – 0 winners. A first half penalty won and converted by Brandon Coventry before a fantastic solo run and finish by Jamie Findlay sealed a hard-fought and well-deserved win.

Continuing on the theme of football, the U15 football team won their semi-final of the Fife cup last week and play in the final of the Fife league on Thursday 4th May at Queen Anne HS against Woodmill High School. We wish the team every success and congratulate them on getting to the final.

Throughout the week, young people in S4-6 have been undertaking SQA examinations. We have had Higher Photography, Higher PE, Higher and National 5 Geography, Higher / National 5 Latin, Higher / National 5 Admin and IT, Advanced Higher, Higher and National 5 Biology, Higher Human Biology, Spanish and Music Tech. It has been a busy week but our young people have done amazingly well for the first week.

I would like to thank all our young people in S1-3 who have ensured that those sitting examinations can do so in quiet as they have shown a superb attitude and respect whilst the examinations are underway. Well done!

As ever, please find below information from Mrs Whyte regarding DYW:

A lot of pupils will be looking to gain some work experience, this is a great opportunity to give you a flavour of the world of work and ‘try out’ a profession. If this is something, you are interested in there is a form to complete on the padlet. There is also a great opportunity for any S5 pupils who are looking to study medicine.

For anyone looking to leave school there are a number of vacancies including – apprenticeships in Admin, at Scotrail, Exxon, Babcock and Sky Television advertised. As well as a range of part and full time jobs.

Finally, we say Bon Voyage to some of our S3 who depart KHS tomorrow, for Belgium and France on the Battlefields trip. We wish them a safe and enjoyable trip.

The week ahead…

Monday is the May day holiday and school will be closed to all young people. School will open for all on Tuesday 2nd May 2023. Next week, SQA examinations continue from Tuesday. Masterclasses continue to support young people with final preparations for their examinations.

Please note that school will also be closed on Monday 8th May for the King’s Coronation.

I hope you have an enjoyable (long) weekend

Best wishes

Chris McKay
