Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 10/03/23

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.

The week that’s been…

This week, we have been focussing on Science and Developing the Young workforce through our year group assemblies.

Dr Murray and Mr Dick amazed and astounded our young people in S1-3 with a presentation and display on Ethanol and its use as a clean alternative fuel. Young people learned about how this was used in Brazil as a fuel for motorised vehicles, using this as an eco-friendly fuel and saw first hand the power of this as a fuel.

Mrs Whyte, our SDS team and colleagues from Fife council spoke to our young people in S4-6 about positive destinations around apprenticeships and the opportunities available to them. Thank you to all involved in organising and presenting.

We continue to be extremely proud of all our young people and it was great to see the pride young people have in being part of our school. This is clear in the pride with which they wear their uniform as well as the respect shown by our young people to all presenters. Well done to all!

We also had some young people in S1/2 who visited Babcock in Rosyth and had a tour of their facilities.

On Tuesday, Mr Young, Ms Squires and myself visited Valley Primary School to speak to Parents / Carers of our future S1 students. It was great to meet and talk to all families and young people about the transition from P7 to S1 in KHS. Thank to all who attended.

As always, please find some information from Mrs Whyte:

Following this week’s assemblies all pupils have been shown how to access the DYW Padlet on the school website, which is updated regularly with opportunities including work experience, in school opportunities as well as apprenticeships and job opportunities.

REMEMBER – It is good to gain experience as well as qualifications in school to make your CV and applications stand out.

If you are looking for something that is not advertised on the padlet – please see Mrs Whyte who will help out.

Thank you to all parents who have completed our survey around what is going well in KHS. I will send out our next survey on Monday. This survey will focus on Reporting and Parents’ Evenings.

The week ahead…

The next parents’ evening is for S1 and takes place on Tuesday 21st March. Information has been sent to all parents / carers on the parent booking system.

Mrs Duckett has asked me to share information about the Dance On concert here at KHS. Information as below and attached:

FREE orchestral concert here at KHS! This concert is free for the whole and wider community of Kirkcaldy High School, so please feel free to pass on to family and friends.
