Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.
The week that’s been…
It was a very mixed week in KHS, with industrial action closing the school to young people and Friday’s incident. That aside, young people continue to make us proud here at KHS.
This week we received news that 94.8% of leavers from KHS left to go to a positive destination (University / College / Employment / Volunteering / other). This is a significant increase from last year (around 5% improvement) and the schools best ever positive destination result. Well done to all young people, staff and partners involved.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day here at KHS. Some of our community dressed for the occasion and there were events and competitions for all. Thank you to Ms Cobban and other staff involved in making this a memorable event.
We also had a Study Skills evening on Thursday for parents / carers of young people in S3-S6. Several families attended a very informative and supportive evening for all. Thank you to Mrs Whyte for leading this and to all staff and families who attended.
Congratulations to Mr Farquharson who was successful at interview for the post of Acting DHT (Support) here in KHS. This post has arisen due to the continued absence of Ms Diamond.
Ms Diamond has notified me of her intention to retire just after Easter. Ms Diamond has been an absolute stalwart of KHS who has helped and supported numerous young people and families over her many years of service to KHS. She will be a huge loss to KHS but we wish her well in her retirement when it comes.
Over the coming weeks, we are looking to hear from all parents / carers about various aspects in KHS. These views will support our school improvement planning in the coming weeks. This week, we are looking for your views around several areas in the school. Can I ask you to complete this survey? This should take approximately 5 minutes. As we go forward, we will seek your views on some focussed areas.
The week ahead…
The is a letter from Carrie Lindsay, Executive Director (Education & Children’s Services), about the King’s Coronation.
There is a P7 transition evening taking place on Tuesday 7th March 2023 at Valley P.S. for those who are moving to KHS in August.
Young people will have a year assembly this week. The focus will be on science week / DYW. Moreover, Year Heads will continue to emphasise our values and expectations to all young people.
Best wishes
