Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.
The week that’s been…
It’s been another busy and enjoyable week here at KHS with young people engaged in a range of learning both in and out of school.
This week, young people from our S5/6 Travel and Tourism class organised several events for Children in Need across the school culminating in a Dress Down day on Thursday. The skills that they developed and used also forms part of their qualification. Other events included Guess Pudsey’s birthday, Guess how many balloons in the Mini Bus and the selling of some Children in Need merchandise. All money raised will go to Children in Need.
On Monday, all young people in S5 attended the Safe Drive, Stay Alive presentation, aimed at ensuring key messages around road safety are clear to support young people in the choices they make.
This week, we have continued to work with our young people on our core values of Respect for Self, Respect for Others and Respect for Learning. I also sent some key information to all parents / carers around processes for attendance and notifying us of any absence.
This weeks DYW notice follows on from last week: The Padlet has been updated with more local jobs – lots of local places are taking on Christmas temps. Remember the first place to start with applying for a job is to write a CV. There is a great guide on my World of Work to help with this. Speak to the Careers Advisors if you are not sure about where to start. If you are in S5 and starting to think about applying to University, in particular Edinburgh University – please let Mrs Whyte know as there is a great opportunity coming up!
I also sent parents / carers a flyer yesterday for the Kirkcaldy Careers Fair which is due to take place on Tuesday 29th November, 4pm – 6.30pm here at KHS.
The week ahead…
Yesterday, I sent all parents / carers an email and letter about industrial action due to take place on Thursday 24th November. Due to this industrial action, the school will be closed to all young people. This also affects the planned S4 Parents’ Evening. With the strike due to go ahead, we will work with parents / carers to re-arrange this Parents’ Evening. More information will follow next week.
Finally, a reminder that the next Parent Council meeting will take place online, on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 at 6pm. Agenda and TEAMS link will be sent to all parents / carers on Monday 21/11/22.
Best wishes
Chris McKay
