Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based information.

The week that’s been…

The nights are fair drawing in but KHS has sprung back to life following the October break! It is great to be back and to see our community back for term 2.

Before the break, I shared with you that we had finalised our house changes and appointed 2 additional Guidance teachers. As we returned on Monday, learners, staff and families were getting used to the new structure and we continue to ensure continuity in terms of support for our young people. Next week, we will have our first house assemblies, and we will introduce each house to their new team.

During the course of the week, we have been focussing on our return and getting back to the core business of learning and teaching with our staff undertaking professional learning around questioning which will be our theme across this term.

On Thursday, we held an assembly for S4 in advance of our assessment weeks towards the end of the month. Miss Nessel, PTC and Qualifications Scotland Co-Ordinator, shared with our young people the assessment timetable and talked through the process. We had inputs from some of our successful learners, sharing their insights about studying and preparing for the assessments. We wish all the very best for the forthcoming assessments. There will be an opportunity for parents / carers to learn more too on Tuesday 10th November.

In addition, I had the privilege of hearing from our Duke of Edinburgh Gold award learners (first group in KHS to work towards completing this level). The group shared their journey and experience to a group of S3 learners who are working towards DofE Bronze alongside some other teaching colleagues. We are so proud of this group, and we wish them well as they work to gaining their gold award.

The week ahead…

Next week we have house assemblies, S1 Parent / Carer evening, a Learning Partnership visit with colleagues from Fife Council and further afield coming to KHS and on Friday we host the FoKHS Race Night.

I hope you have a spooktacular weekend when it comes!

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
