Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.
The week that’s been…
It’s been a very full and busy week here in KHS with examinations continuing, learning and events taking place and a dress down day for a very important cause taking place today!
Over the course of this week, examinations continued for our senior school. They included: RMPS (all levels), Graph Comm (all levels), Chemistry (all levels), D&M (all levels), History (all levels) and applications of maths (N5 and Higher). Next week is the second last week of the QS exam diet. Well done to all for their determination, hard work and enthusiasm so far.
On Monday, our timetable changed for all S1-3 moving to S2-4. It was a smooth transition and great to see continued high levels of engagement from our learners across the week.
On Tuesday, we had a group of learners out of school taking part in a day at Leuchars learning about careers and life in the Army. An excited group took part in a range of activities and heard from those who are currently serving their country. Well done to all.
Today, we held a dress down day for a very important cause – SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) – as Mental Health week ended. Thank you to all who supported and contributed to this.
If you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.
As you will be aware, we updated our mobile phone policy, and the new policy was implemented this week. The change to the policy has been really well received and few issues raised. Speaking to teachers and learners across the week, all are reporting greater engagement in learning with more focus in class. A huge thank you to all for your support with this.
Next week, we will implement our new Learner pass policy. As shared with families over the previous weeks, the purpose of this policy is primarily to support safeguarding and safety in school through good order. All families affected should have received an email to alert you to the pass continuing or discontinuing on Wednesday. As a result of the work from our Guidance teachers and admin team, you can see the change to the data shared with you at the start of term:
| Out of Class Pass | Now | Time out Pass | Now | Early Lunch Pass | Now | Toilet Pass | Now | |
| S2 (242) | 88 | 32 | 58 | 20 | 36 | 14 | 54 | 22 |
| S3 (281) | 134 | 35 | 78 | 17 | 34 | 15 | 90 | 31 |
| S4 (284) | 114 | 30 | 89 | 21 | 18 | 7 | 54 | 14 |
We will continue to review this and work with families and learners to ensure that the principles of GIRFEC are adhered to for all. Again, thank you to all for your support with this.
Finally, congratulations to Mrs Fedor-Szabo who was appointed as permanent teacher of maths on Tuesday. Ms Fedor-Szabo has been with us this year and we look forward to her continuing with us in this permanent post.
The week ahead…
Next week we have Qualifications Scotland examinations continuing all week. For everyone else, we continue with the new timetable.
N.B. please find a communication from Skills Development Scotland (SDS).
I hope you enjoy the weekend!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
