Our Week, Our School 06/02/26

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.

The next communication will be Friday 20th February due to the holiday weekend.

The week that’s been…

It was the last full week before the February break and it’s been non-stop all week!

On Monday, we welcomed families of learners in S2, S4 and S5 to our learning fair. We shared with all families our curriculum overview and offer for those choosing subjects for S3, S5 and S6. Families and young people then had the opportunity to go round all subjects and speak to teachers and employers at each faculty stall. In addition, families of those in S4 had the opportunity to undertake briefing sessions for Maths, English, Science and Social Subjects where staff shared information around study skills, how to access support and key areas in preparation for National Qualifications in May. Well done and thank you to everyone who attended / supported / organised etc.

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to drop in on S4 and S3 classes with Mrs Hume (S4) and Mrs Hamilton (S3) to check engagement in learning, support with any concerns and check on uniform. As ever, it’s always a real privilege to meet with young people and hear about their learning. Thank you to all staff for letting me drop in to their class.

In addition, on Wednesday, we had a group of young people attend the Carabao Cup match between Man City and Newcastle in Manchester. What an amazing opportunity to experience. Thank you to Mr I’Anson and the staff who supported this trip. Well done to all of those who attended for their exemplary behaviour. It was nice to see many attend school on Thursday – tired but here!

Over the course of the week, we have had a range of young people attending and taking part in the Fife Festival of Music. I have had several emails about how wonderful and amazing our young people have been and lots of success shared. Well done to all young people who took part and of course to all those teachers and instructors who supported.

As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.

The week ahead…

Next week is a short week for young people. School closes at 3.25pm for learners on Tuesday and reopens on Monday 16th February for all. Staff will be in school on Wednesday for INSET day 4.

We also say Bon Voyage to a group of learners who are away to Paris for a school trip next week. We wish them a safe trip.

Lastly, learners in S2 will meet with their Guidance teacher on Tuesday to choose their subjects for S3. Times are posted on cabinets across from PSO / STEPS rooms on the ground floor.

Have a great weekend when it comes!

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
