Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.
The week that’s been…
Week 2 back in KHS was just as fast paced as last week but busy and productive!
On Tuesday, all young people took part in a welcome back assembly led by their Year Head. The theme of the assemblies was around mental health and well-being, providing some key information and signposting to supports led by our S6 ‘See me, See change’ mental health ambassadors. Each of the year groups had other inputs based around current priorities for each, including information for S5/6 on upcoming assessments, college and apprenticeship applications. Mrs Duckett spoke to S1 and S2 about an exciting opportunity to become a learning ambassador, building on the great input and progress of our S3 ambassador programme. Well done and thank you to all those who delivered to the year groups and organised the assemblies.
On Wednesday, we welcomed families of our S2 cohort for the Parent / Carer evening. It was great to see so many families attend. Lots of great opportunities for all to discuss the progress made in learning to date and discuss next steps to support. Thank you to all for a very worthwhile evening.
On Wednesday, Mrs Gibb and I visited all S1 classes to have a wee check in on how they were getting on with their work, hear about what they were learning and ensure that young people are engaged and in appropriate uniform. We were very impressed with the year group who continue to make great progress this session!
Today, Mr Young and I visited all S2 classes, as with S1, focussing on how they were getting on, how they were engaging with their learning and speaking to those who needed a reminder of our uniform standards. Again, we were impressed by the engagement across the classes.
As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be engaging with all stakeholders to gather your views around our current mobile phone policy and use this information to amend our current policy. I will write to all families at the beginning of next week and ask for your views. In the meantime, I would signpost you to our current policy
Over the past couple of weeks, we have noticed a slight increase in the misuse of phones in school. We would ask for your support in ensuring your child(ren) is / are aware of the policy and adhere to it. I would also ask for your support in not contacting your child(ren) during class times. If there is a need to contact your child, please do so through the school office. Likewise, if they are due to leave for an appointment. This should be shared with the office who can alert the class teacher. As ever, your support around this is greatly appreciated.
Please see below the House Points:

The week ahead…
This week S5/6 undertake formal assessments as part of their preparations for SQA assessments in May. We wish them the best of luck over the coming week or two.
On Wednesday, Mrs Gibb and I hit the road as we head to our associated primary schools for the P7 Roadshow! We are looking forward to meeting families at Fair Isle (5pm) and Valley (6pm).
On Thursday, the 3rd PACK meeting of the session takes place online at 6.30pm. The agenda and link for the meeting is available.
I hope you have a great weekend when it comes!
Best wishes,
