Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log and the first of the new session. I hope you and your family are doing well!
The week that’s been…
What a fantastic first week of term and absolutely fantastic to see all our community return to school following the summer break. I must thank all families for their support with school uniform – our young people looked amazing on their return, helping to develop that real sense of community and team.
Our new S1 have settled in well over the course of the week and have quickly got their bearings as they navigate their timetables. Ably assisted by their buddies, they have taken this week in their stride and shown remarkable character and enthusiasm as they get grounded in their new environment. I hope their enthusiasm continues in the weeks and months ahead!
On Wednesday, year heads met with their year groups through assemblies, welcoming young people back to school and updating as necessary. It was great to see everyone return and wonderful to speak to many.
Over the course of this week, I visited all faculties across the school, taking time to see what our young people are learning. In all classes, young people were engaged and positive about their experiences.
Mrs Hamilton has been supporting learners who have returned following their SQA exams and has taken time to support course changes. We hope this has been helpful and supportive. We would ask that learners now focus on their timetables and work hard without further change. If there is an serious concern, please see Mrs Davidson, year head for S5/6.
Over the course of the session, we will add much more to our school blog.
The week ahead…
Next week, our focus will be on ensuring that all of our learners are settled into their classes and learning.
Colleagues will take part in training for the Transformation of Learning using iPads on Friday. We are looking forward to learning how we can use these new devices to support and improve the learning experience of all our young people.
Mrs Gibb (DHT, Year Head S1) has sent S1 families a letter outlining an opportunity for family learning on Tuesday 2nd September. Colleagues from our Maths and English faculties will be showcasing their curriculum and answering any questions that you may have.
Lastly, we are due to have our first PACK meeting on w/b 1st September 2025. I will email you next week to confirm the agenda and day. Meetings take place online using TEAMS and the meetings start at 6.30pm. I hope you can join us and help to support our school and community.
I hope you have a great weekend, whatever you’re up to!
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
