Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are keeping well!
The week that’s been…
The weeks are really flying past, and I can’t believe that there are only 3 weeks until the festive break! That said, everyone at KHS continues to be really busy with lots happening.
This week, our S4 learners get their first experience of assessments in the assembly hall kicking off with English on Monday and finishing the week with Mathematics. Young people have been an absolute credit to you and our community, working hard with a real, positive attitude to these important assessments.
Mr Young (Year Head S2) and I had a learning walk on Thursday, visiting all S2 in their classes. It was a real pleasure to speak with the young people and learn more about how their learning was progressing.
I also managed a learning walk with Mrs Gibb (Year Head S1). We visited S1 in during their Numeracy and Literacy period. Again, we were amazed at the different opportunities on offer and the engagement of our young people.
Today, we had Secondary Head Teachers, Business Managers, Heads of Service and our new Executive Director of Education, Donnie MacLeod, visit the school for a meeting. Our prefect team did a fantastic job of welcoming all our visitors to KHS, showing them to the venue and speaking about life at KHS on the way. Our visitors were very impressed with the team, with many positive comments. Well done and thanks to all who supported.
In SLD this week, we had some changes with 2 of our classes displaced due to a fault in our lift. Our young people were fantastic, adapting to the change in environment well and enjoying time in the new location. We have also had some staff absences which have affected the normal rhythm of things. All young people are now back in the faculty and continue to thrive with their learning and achievements!
As ever, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog.
House Point totals for the week and session so far are as below:
This weeks total:
Adam Smith – 44
Carlyle – 77
Oswald – 20
Overall total:
Adam Smith – 2444
Carlyle – 2365
Oswald – 2222
Well done to all!
The week ahead…
Next week, assessments continue for S4 Monday and Tuesday, with any catch-up assessments taking place on Wednesday.
On Thursday, we look forward to welcoming parents and carers of S5/6 for the S5/6 Parent / Carer evening.
Over the course of the week, S2 / 4 / 5 will have the opportunity to learn more about their course choice options for next session and will continue to complete their mock course choices.
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
