Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log.
The week that’s been…
This week has been very fast paced, with lots going on across and out of school.
On Monday, a group of S4 learners set off on their Silver DofE practice expedition. They had some amazing weather for the 3-day adventure along the Fife Coastal path and took everything in their stride. Speaking to Ms Wallace today, the young people were an absolute credit to you and the school. Well done to all involved and special thanks to Ms Wallace and Mr Turnball who supported.
On Wednesday, we welcomed parents and carers of our S4 cohort into school, to share information around SQA, the supports on offer here at KHS and online, and information about positive destinations. The event was really well attended and the families that I spoke to got a lot from the evening. Thank you to everyone for coming out on what was a very warm evening. Thank you to Mrs Hume, all the staff team who supported and our pupil senior leaders who helped to ensure the night went smoothly.
Also on Wednesday, our S3’s took part in the SNSA assessments. Support by Ms Samfat and other staff, young people worked well and undertook these national assessments with a great attitude.
Today, we held our first locality professional learning afternoon across all 4 Kirkcaldy High Schools. Teachers from across the locality had the option to choose a session in one of the four schools. The sessions were all based around curriculum development and raising achievement.
As ever, there have been a range of visits and activities that you can read all about through our school website and blog.
A wee update from Ms Black:
“Hope you’ve had a good week and enjoyed the late summer sun. Our learners working outside must bring both waterproofs and bobble hats as well as sun lotion and water bottles! Our S4-6 cohort have been sharing their thoughts on their post-school choices, as we are doing across the school, and it’s exciting to hear about the adventures to come. Our S1s have taken part in the same exercise, and we will work together to help those hopes and dreams develop.
In SLD3 their community-based learning continues and this week a very productive litter pick was undertaken. They are also very talented and mindful paper quillers. Combining artistic flair and learning with fine motor skill work they are creating masterpieces that we look forward to sharing soon. Our S3s have been completing SNSA testing this week as well. In SLD2 the effort in Maths deserves a special mention. Lots of exploring multiplication and fantastic learning, they have worked very hard. They have also shown resilience and great emotional literacy in navigating the week. We are super proud of you all.”
I hope you have a fantastic safe weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
And finally, please see our House Point totals for the week and session so far:
This weeks total:
- Adam Smith – 195
- Carlyle – 258
- Oswald – 249
Overall total:

Well done to all!
The week ahead…
Next week, we look forward to welcoming parents and carers of S1 for an information session on English and Mathematics. Mrs Gibb sent a letter to S1 families last week and an additional reminder was sent on Wednesday. Please sign up using the link on the letter if you can come along.
A reminder that there is a delay on the reports for S4-6 due to technical issues on the company’s side. These reports will be available before the end of term. Mrs Hume has emailed families with further details.
I hope you and your family have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
