Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.
The week that’s been…
It’s been another very busy week in school with lots of ups and a couple of challenges!
Firstly, I just wanted to confirm that KHS will be open to all next week as planned industrial action has been suspended per my update earlier. In addition, the planned S3 Parent / Carer evening is now unaffected and will go ahead as scheduled.
Last Friday, the Friends of Kirkcaldy High School Ceilidh took place with lots of dancing and fun had by all. Although I was unable to attend, my sources tell me that it was an amazing evening and everyone enjoyed the ceilidh and fish supper! This event has helped to raise almost £2000. Thank you to FoKHS for their continued support for KHS and our community and thank you to those who attended, bought raffle prizes etc.
Over the course of this week, I have been out and about popping in and out of classes and speaking to several of our learners. For the most part, young people are enjoying school and the richness of opportunity that exists through our curriculum and extra-curricular experience on offer. I have also had the opportunity to speak to a few young people who have excelled in many areas in and out of school including sports, music and dance!
Today, I stopped by S5/6 music class to present Rory G with an achievers tie for winning the Fife Festival of Music Young Musician of the Year 2026. An amazing achievement – well done again.
As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.
Some fantastic news from Mrs Duckett to share with you also:
”Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society has been awarded the 2026 Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award, a national honour recognising musical organisations that make an exceptional impact on their communities. This award celebrates KOS’s long‑standing commitment to inclusive music‑making, its vibrant concerts and its role in nurturing musicians of all ages across Fife.
Why this matters for our school
For many years, our pupils and staff have been proud members of KOS, contributing to its rehearsals, performances and community projects. The orchestra has offered our young musicians something truly special:
the chance to play challenging repertoire alongside experienced adult players
the opportunity to grow in confidence within a supportive, multi‑generational ensemble
a real sense of belonging to a respected musical community beyond the school walls
Being part of KOS has helped countless pupils develop not only their musicianship but also teamwork, discipline and a lifelong love of orchestral music. For our staff, it has been a joy to make music with students in a new context and to see them flourish on a larger stage.
A moment of shared pride
This national award recognises the dedication of everyone involved in KOS, and we are delighted that members of our own school community have played a part in that success. The opportunity for our pupils to participate in such an inspiring ensemble is genuinely wonderful, and we look forward to many more years of collaboration and music‑making.”
