Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.
The week that’s been…
What a busy week here at KHS…it has been so full on, I can’t quite get my head around all that is happening!
I have been in and out of classes across the week, taking some cover classes too and speaking to many of our young people as I go. I must say that the young people in the classes I have covered have been great, working hard and keen to do well.
On Thursday, Mrs Harrower, Ms Dalziel and 2 of our young people attended the Scottish Parliament to collect our reaccredited Level 1 Vision Schools Scotland award – dedication to Holocaust Education. In Mrs Harrower’s words…
’We picked up our reaccreditation for Level 1 Vision Schools Scotland – dedication to Holocaust Education. We took Eilidh C (S4) and Zainab U (S3) along to the Scottish Parliament today to collect the award, presented by Jenny Gilruth…I am really proud of how far we have come in our Vision Schools journey and look forward to seeing what progress we make in the next three years!’.
Well done to all involved and to the team for leading on this important work.
Mr Harrower has also shared some amazing news from our School of Rugby:
‘Since October, we have been running a successful School of Rugby programme for pupils in S1+S2. Over the last few weeks, pupils have been involved in several games. The S1+S2 boys have played Glenrothes home and away and won both games. Considering most of the boys involved only started playing rugby in October, playing in a full contact 15-a-side game is a fantastic achievement. The boys were a credit to themselves and the school. The S2 girls competed in a tournament at Madras Rugby Club in St Andrews on Tuesday this week. We joined up with another school and the girls were fantastic. Again, this was their first full contact 15-a-side games of rugby and they did themselves proud, against schools who have far more experienced school rugby programmes. We look forward to more opportunities for our young people to play in the coming weeks. ’
Again, a huge well done to all involved and to Mr Harrower for organising and supporting!

The week ahead…
Next week, we have S5 coursing day on Tuesday, followed by year group assemblies taking place on Wednesday P2 – P6.
The theme for the assemblies for S1-3 will be an input from Scottish Fire and Rescue around safety with the lighter days and (hopefully) better weather coming. For S4-6, we will be speaking about the upcoming National Qualifications and other relevant issues.
On Friday, it is the annual FoKHS ceilidh with lots of dancing and a fish supper too!
I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
