Our Week, Our School 06/02/26

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.

The week that’s been…

It feels like an age since I last shared this weekly update, but it’s only been 7 school days! Lots of great things going on at a very busy time of year!

Firstly, as you will be aware from my last update, a group of young people, supported by staff, had an amazing experience in France last week. A full itinerary over the week including taking in the sights as well as culture and some educational awareness. Well done to everyone and a huge thank you to staff who gave up their time to support.

On Tuesday, we had publication of the HMIE Parental letter, Summarised Inspection Findings and additional data. As I shared in my update letter, the report highlights real key strengths around leadership, wellbeing and support and improvements to Learning, Teaching and Assessment. There is much to be proud of. We still have work to do around attainment, but this is a challenge for the school, families, learners and community to take on. We all must drive forward ambition for our learners in what we do. I will update you in due course about what we plan to do to continue our improvement in this area.

On Wednesday evening, a group of young people in S5 and S6 helped and supported a quiz for primary children, led and supported by the Rotary. Mrs Davidson was very impressed by how supportive and engaged our young people were and a great time was had by all!

On Thursday, young people in S2, S4 and S6 took part in the Equally Safe at School survey. Mrs Gibb was very impressed by the approach taken by all young people and the team from ESAS shared that the conduct and attitude by all was exemplary. A huge well done and thank you to all who organised and those who took part.

As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.

Fife Council are seeking your views about your experience of the school and Education directorate through the Parentwise survey. To that end, we would ask you to share your views by completing the Parentwise survey sent in “Groupcall”.

A few updates to make you aware of:

  • Thank you to all families, young people and staff who contributed to our survey about mobile phone use in KHS. We had over 700 responses. As you would imagine, each group had differing views. Over the coming weeks, I will be in contact with those who wish to discuss this issue further, looking to set up a meeting or 1 to 1 to discuss.
  • Over the past week or so, we have had an increase in staff absence with seasonal illnesses. Whilst we hope this is temporary, we will work to ensure that learning continues for all and that rotations are put in place where necessary for long term absences.
  • Study leave for S4 – 6 starts on Monday 20th April until Tuesday 2nd June. A letter with more details about arrangements will be shared in due course.

I have been asked to share with you important information about how to support your child(ren) with the internet.
