Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.
The week that’s been…
And take a breath…what a busy and super quick week it has been here at KHS!
On Monday, learners in S5 took part in the ‘Safe Drive, Stay Alive’ assembly. This assembly highlighted the dangers of peer pressure and the associated risks and consequences of this. Thank you to Mrs Kendrick for organising this.
On Tuesday, learners in S3 took part in the ‘Speedy STEM’ event. Young people undertook a speedy interview with colleagues from a plethora of STEM related companies and institutions, each lasting 5 minutes over the course of a period. The event allowed young people to learn more about the variety of career options and the interesting work undertaken. Well done to Dr Murray for a fabulously organised event and to all the young people, companies and staff who supported.
We also had the second PACK meeting of the session on Tuesday. During the meeting, parents and carers heard updates from our Pupil Leadership Team (PLT), Headteacher and we discussed issues raised by PACK. Areas discussed included:
- S1 Parent / Carer evening and how well received this was by families
- Update from PLT including winter formal, increase in young people leading assemblies including remembrance and learning standard
- Some concerns raised around lack of response from school after emailing (C McKay has addressed)
- Discussion about timing of S4 Parent / Carer evening (to be reviewed per school planning)
- Issues on KC1 bus (school following up).
On Thursday, we welcomed families of our future S1 (P7 families) to KHS for a family learning event. Young people and families got a tour of the school and were able to experience life as a new S1, visiting several subjects / faculties. Families were given some demonstrations as well as information and a chance to speak to our amazing staff team. Massive thank you to all families, young people and staff for a wonderful event. Many thanks to Mrs Gibb for pulling everything together and the many young people who supported as buddies and those who supported the PE faculty too.
Our S4s had an assembly on Thursday also, with Mrs Davidson sharing some key information about the upcoming S4 assessment weeks. Good luck to all of our S4 over the coming week or two as they embark on their first opportunity in the assembly hall! Huge thanks to Mrs Davidson, Mr Mooney and all involved in supporting and organising this.
